Old Style Daily Friday 15th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
We were lucky here with the weather yesterday, it started off dull and windy and turned out nice and sunny in the afternoon, a real pleasant surprise. I hope that we are as lucky today.
I have a couple of things that I have had delivered to shops to collect this morning. One of them is a pair of sandals from Clarks. They didn’t have them in my size in the shop so I ordered them online in their sale. I do hope that they fit so that the sandal shopping can finally come to an end. The other one is from M & S. While I’m in town I need to go to the pharmacy and collect my prescription. I will aim to get up for 9.00am when they open so that I can out before the town gets too busy.
I don’t need any food shopping today, I will pick up a few salad bits tomorrow and that is all I will need for a while.
The town is going to be really busy from today until Monday with much of it closed off because of a major music event. Which is fine if you like the band and want to go, but not so good for me because I haven’t worked out how to walk from my house to the town yet, and the road closures are in place from 8.00am this morning.
Have a good holiday nannywindow.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Good morning everyone.
The storm raged through here and was gone by late afternoon. My meeting was long, mildly interesting parts and deadly dull in others. Par for the course!
This morning I'm going down to DMs where I'll be staying until Tuesday this time. She has a docs appointment then so no point in driving home again on Saturday. I'm taking my laptop this time so I can get on with finishing up work.
Happy Friday folks.0 -
Morning everyone
beenthere_donethat - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Light cloud - hoping the sun will put in an appearance, after a very dull dreary dreich start yesterday the sun came out and it was lovely although very breezy - got lots of washing line dried but it all had to be double pegged so it didn't end up in next doors garden.
Dinner last night was roast chicken portions, HG new potatoes, carrots, broc, cauli in cheese sauce, stuffing and gravy. Tonight will be something and chips for the menfolk, I'll be having mushroom omelette and salad most probably.
I did get stuff done yesterday but had the sort of day where you run around all day but don't seem to have got much done IYKWIM. Today I'm headin to the SM first thing, then must get the ironing done as the pile is mahoosive due to all the line drying yesterday, but the dirty wash basket has hardly anything in it. I'll then just be getting sorted for the yard sale tomorrow morning.
Keep safe and well x

Like Gers, the storm passed by late afternoon, there was some sunshine but not for long! Needless to say the sports day was postponed although it had dried up by then but the wind was still strong.
Sounds like you had a good weekend Speky, must have been good if you're still recovering on Thursday!
Not much to report but must remember the chimney sweep is coming this evening. I never know whether to clean out the fire or not before he comes.
Hope you all have a happy Friday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning folks and thanks BTDT. All calm here too this morning after yesterday's gale force winds. It looked like autumn with the roads full of fallen leaves battered from the trees. Still no rain though.
The DGDs are all still in their beds but will be to waken up shortly, feed and water ready for the school run. Once back I have the pleasure of the Friday Tidy though why I am bothering I don't know when we have the girls back again tomorrow!
Yesterday was a very long day. The hospital driver arrived at 8.10 and we then had a scenic run to Leeds via the countryside as he had another chap to collect from up on the tops. It was so quiet at the hospital arriving that early. Straight in for his bloods and no waiting for his Oncology appt either! Just as it should always be! We were back home for 12.45! Mr TA was tired so had a nap and I then decided to do the shopping before the girls descended "starving". That saves a job for today.
No idea what's on our menu for today. Will sort that out when back from the school run. I am trying my best to incorporate Fortisip into Mr TA's eating plan but there is much face pulling by him!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed. NANNYWINDOW have a lovely holiday. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

Overslept slightly so running a bit late so a quick one from me this morning.
Off to work for me its been quite a good week as I am designing menu's and contacting suppliers etc. for the new caf! opening which has been something different and something to get my teeth into, I have really enjoyed going it actually.
Take away and wine tonight :j not too much wine for me as I am working tomorrow and Sunday
this will hopefully be my last one though !
Nanny have a great holiday xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
Yesterday was spent mainly on the family. Grump, nearing the end of the job is feeling the pressure of deadlines. I had to talk him out of quitting yesterday morning. He'd got as far as putting his tools in the motor. He can't quit. I want him to pay his loan off. I want it paid off by the end of the year and I'm going to push him till he does.
Hope all went well at the hospital with Prodigal. He's still a concern at the moment but he's heading in the right direction.
The Blonde One dropped her Fathers Day stuff off. She's off to Ibiza today for the weekend with the girls. I've told her we will be going away soon. She will have to make childcare arrangements for the Grandchildren. She's not best pleased of course but fitting round her isn't working for us and Grump needs some time away.
Eldest is dealing with a few issues that sent him to drinking in the first place. He's dealing with them though with the support of the AA and teetotal eyes. He sent me this last night. It's his 3 month sobriety coin from the AA.
I honestly think he's turned a corner.
Youngest. He's got wild ideas about how to spend his money but none of them include plans for the future. As much as I love him, I don't want to be responsible for the roof over his head at the age of 60. Sorry if that sounds harsh but I've done a lot of thinking lately about what I want out of life....what's bought this on? One of my closest school friends has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Onwards and forwards,
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Judi, well done to your eldest DS, it must be so hard giving up an addiction. Also I'm sorry about your friend's news.
I've been to Bradford airport and back this morning, DH has gone to Dublin. We were supposed to be going back home tonight after I picked him up but he has almost finished painting the front of the house (thanks to the roofers scaffolding) and wants to finish the last little bit tomorrow. The roofers have finished and will be coming to take down the front scaffolding this morning (the back one went yesterday). They've done a really good job, just the bill to pay now!
I'll do a quick trip to Settle but I want to clean the top bedrooms which have got very dusty from the roof works.0 -
Good morning to you all,
Its Friday, thank goodness
Last night was date night with my gran, which I somehow managed to forget about. Fortunately she lives 5 minutes away so when she called to say that dinner was ready I popped over. Homemade soup followed by cabbage, bacon and potatoes. I done a few odd jobs for her around the house while I was there and we sat and chatted for a bit too. A lovely night.
Tonight, I've a good friends engagement party - which I can see far enough if Im honest. So I need to nip out at lunch and buy a shirt (for me) and a gift and card (for them). More spending, great!
BTDT - Do you make the Naan? I've always wanted to do that..
Judi - Fantastic to receive such a positive post from Eldest. Long may it continue.0 -
Good morning all
thanks for starting us off beenthere_donethat
Judi - well done to eldest, sorry to hear about your friend
Feeling a bit better after food poisoning last week, but still not 100%. Have managed to eat a little but can't eat a meal.
After 4 phone calls not answered and 3 messages on their website finely had a reply , have completed a form. I just wanted to make them aware, will never go back but don't want anyone else to be ill.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0
