Old Style Daily Monday 18th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone :hello:

Two foxes fighting in my back garden woke me up an hour ago and I can’t get back to sleep. It's so annoying because I may have got another couple of hours sleep :(.

I’ve given up and stripped my bed and have got the bedding in the WM and want to have a quick dust and vacuum through later this morning.

This afternoon I’m going to visit a lady who was a friend of my mother for many years. It is her birthday this week so I want to take a small gift up for her. She loves madeira cake so I made one while I was making the carrot cake yesterday.

Dinner will be one of the hm ready meals in the freezer, I’m not sure what but will have a rummage later.

BTDT mushroom porridge sounds really unusual it will be interesting to see what you think of it.

I hope my TA had a better day yesterday TA.

I’m sorry that they let you down again Silver-oldie.

I hope that you enjoyed the cheesecake Nelski, I’ve yet to find a cheesecake I don’t like it’s one of my favourite desserts and I nearly always have it when I’m eating out.

DP1 you are doing the right thing by keeping the lines of communication open. I hope resolves quickly for you.

I’m glad that things are now sorted between eldest, prodigal and you now Judi. Hopefully after yesterday things will be ok between eldest and grump as well.

Redruby I do hope that the kitchen is fixed soon. At least the leak has been found and it is drying out.

Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.

    Morning All

Monday morning again! The weather isn't up to much but no washing to do today. I put bedding out yesterday before I went out but it was wetter when it came in. It was a bit chilly last night so I lit the fire for a while, then it was too warm!

Had a good wander with DD in Glasgow, certainly a sombre place at the moment. Lunch was nice and I bought new trainers, I wear them more and more as proper shoes these days.

Glad the kitchen is drying out RR, hope it's not too long before it's back t normal.
Sorry your family didn't visit silveroldie.
dp1 - DS1 didn't speak to me for 6 years, if you keep the lines of communication open your DD knows you are there for her.

Swimming, work and yoga today and I may have to tackle some ironing later.

    Happy Monday, take care. XX

Morning all, the promised thunderstorm for the weekend failed to materialise and I was disappointed because I hoped it woukd bring an end to this spell of cool but somehow muggy days. We had one sharp shower on Saturday and then a drizzly spell yesterday. Haven't looked at today's forecast but I have washing to do so even if it is damp outside, it will have to be done.

I have an orchid that was a gift from a friend and it is in bud for the third time, am pleased with that.

Have managed to wrench my shoulder somehow but it will settle as the day goes on, I'm sure.

I defrosted the fridge this weekend, not exactly a thrilling start to retirement but it needed doing, it is a very old fridge and was very iced up.

Last night's dinner was chicken thighs marinated in smoked garlic, parsley and olive oil, cooked with potatoes and served with salad. Unfortunately by the time I got it on the table, I wasn't very hungry so DS got most of mine. I ate the salad and a bit of flatbread which I lazily did not make, it was from Mr m*rrisons.

I spoke to my mother who at nearly 90 and with mobility problems is contemplating buying a flat on the first floor, no lift. OH says just don't engage with this since she will do as she pleases anyway. We'll see what happens.

Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning Holly and all,

A few years back I'd have never thought I'd get my very 'fractured' family back together again and make my peace with my Mother before she died but I have and I did so I'm blessed, very blessed. Still need to work on The Blonde One.

Rubbish nights sleep for me, and I dare not go back to sleep as SIL will be dropping Diva off at 7 as The Blonde One is still in Ibiza. I spoke to him last night, he's not impressed. He feels like he's been chucked in at the deep end. Not sure whether to feel sorry for him or not as he goes abroad with the lads too leaving TBO on her own with the kids.

Didn't feel Grump get out of bed this morning.

Oh I don't think I mentioned we went clothes shopping yesterday for Grump. The kids have gave him money for Fathers day. Here's me thinking I was fussy! We went looking for a new shirt and he came back with another coat.

There's something quite comforting about a cuckoos call. Mr Cuckoo is quite loud today.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

  • Morning folks and thanks for the start HOLLY. We have quite a wind blowing this morning but it's forecast to stay fine so can't have everything!

There's a right assortment of jobs I should be doing today but I feel in a CBA mood already. I do, however, need to pop in town this morning on the bus for one or two bits. Including calling in B**ts to see if they have Mr TA's new medication ready. After the debacle last week of ringing the surgery every day about the Fortisip, and getting nowhere, I am going straight to B**ts to see if the new tablets have been done.

Talking of the Fortisip I am not having much success at getting it down him. Nearly everything I make using it gets left as he says it makes him feel sick. I despair. The only one he is guaranteed to tolerate is a milk shake I make using the vanilla one, whizzed with fortified milk and ice cream. And even then it takes him ages to get it down. I am still wading through the recipes in the hope I might find something else to his liking.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, but he's requested pancakes for brekkie so I'll sort that shortly.

Cloudy dull and dreich start to the day here, but dry so I have a basket full of washing to peg out - forecast says it will be warm and sun should make an appearance later.

Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasts, mash, carrots, green beans, cauli/broc cheese, peas, yorkshires and gravy, tonight we'll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg.

The weekend has flown by again, yesterday we visited my parents, then stopped off at the charity shop and dropped in another 4 x box loads of carp to get rid of, still loads more to do but finding it strangely satisfying. DH and boys spent some time out in the shed, it's a complete pit and dumping ground - it needs a complete emptying and sort out - although it's starting to look better. Inside is getting there too, I have several items on the dining room table which need to go to the dump/recycling centre - which I'll do on my days off at the end of the week. I'm now also working the next 2 Saturdays - then I'm off for 2 weeks, but then have several Saturdays' work - so will be keeping busy.

Back to work today - we'll see what today brings.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone,

    Happy Monday :)

I had a lovely weekend. Friday night was a close friends engagement party. Saturday was spent mostly watching football and then had a takeaway at the above friends house. Sunday I visited my dad for Fathers Day and then instead of our Sunday roast, we went out for a Chinese. Lovely.

Back to the grind this week. Been to the gym this morning and 2 x games of football tonight too.

HH - Perhaps a nap later on to make up for the lost sleep during the night. Bloody foxes!!!
Camelot - My gym is round the corner from the Art School and they were still putting out fires this morning!
Judi - Good on you! I'm glad things have pretty much worked out for you all. You deserve a medal.
  • Morning ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

It was bright when we first got up, clouding over and quite a breeze. I hope it does not rain, I have the bed linen in the washer. I did two loads yesterday, coloureds and then OH's track suit and overalls he wears in the garden. Got it all dry.

A quiet week this week, its OH's birthday on Wednesday.........so his choice for supper. He was disappointed yesterday not to hear from his son.....I am not surprised, said son was adopted and his birth mother has just traced him, he has found out he has 3 siblings, he is very wrapped up in them.

I was disappointed in the should of lamb I got from Morrison, it was very fatty, not much meat on it, in fact the remains are going in the PKP to make soup for lunch, will have to have egg and chips tonight rather than lamb salad. Probably strawberries for dessert.

    Morning everyone,

Sun is out here and we are forecasted to have a couple of warm days, just wish it would rain when it’s cloudy as everything is so dry.
It’s a fast day today so just nursing a coffee, mind I am still full from the meal out last night so hopefully that will tide me over until lunch. I do need to get out this morning to get some salady bits and dog food, then over to see Lu this afternoon.....wonder what mood she will be in today, hopefully not so hormonal!

Judi I like a cuckoo’s call as well, sound of summer and all that.....aw little Diva :)

Have a good day folks x
