Old Style Daily Wednesday 13th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone :hello:
The WIFI just went off briefly and I lost the post I was halfway through writing. Never mind, first world problems, at least I have WIFI.
BTDT I’m pleased that they referred you to the breast clinic, hopefully it will be nothing to worry about.
Gers your garden is lovely, the bench looks great.
Hopefully you have had a better night than you did your first night home Nelski.
Judi I hope your blood pressure reading are ok. Sorry to hear about the vacuum cleaner, Grump moaning about it won’t help your blood pressure
Congratulations to your DDIL snoozer.
Hope you are feeling better now CRANKY.
Today I have an appointment with the consultant, and then I want to get a couple of things in town.
I have a couple of phone calls I need to make, both with companies where you end up on hold for ages, so I have been putting off phoning them.
The kettle is calling me so have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Cloudy, dreich and dreary, dry underfoot, but overcast and air feels much cooler.
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Dinner last night was smoked sausage and mushroom pasta in creme fraiche sauce, ice cream for dessert. I forgot to take the meat out of the freezer for tonight's dinner so will need to sort something on my way home from work.
Yesterday work wasn't overly busy so we'll see how today goes, working all day.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
BTDT I had 'something' picked up on a routine scan. Two biopsies and an ultrasound scan didn't identify what it was so I had the thing removed as a day procedure. It ended up being an active patch of cells and not a nasty thing. What were they doing, the cancan? But I did have some weeks of worry until the lab results came back - unnecessary worry but I'd rather that than have something not picked up.
Judi, is your vacuum on its guarantee period?
Nelski, please take it easy.
Today I'm going to the dentist just for a check up and hygienist appointment. And I haven't had to arrange it around work for the first time in living memory.
I have some personal errands so can do that afterwards and then carry on pootling about.
I thought we were meant to have rain today but it doesn't look like it so far, must check what the weatherman says. In this first week if retirement I have discovered that my life seems to be governed by weather for drying the washing and also I have a talent for messing about.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Another bright, sunny morning but rain due later. The air is much fresher this morning - lovely!
I went to a live screening of The Royal Ballet's Swan Lake last night which was fab, I've never seen a ballet before and it was truly amazing although the seats weren't that comfortable and it was very hot. Drove home at 11pm and it was still light enough to see the silhouettes of the hills.
Welcome home Nelski, now be good and take it easy!
Beautiful bench Gers, definitely the place for a G&T.
Hugs to you BTDT.
Well done to snoozer's DIL.
Hope you're feeling better today cranky.
Work has become incredibly busy as it's near the end of term, so much going on and rather too many biscuits and cakes in the staff room for me, so much temptation!
I went to the allotment after work, goodness me everything has grown so much. Took ages to water it all and get it tidy, I'll have to buy a new pea support as the plants look like they may be giants!
Have a good Wednesday, take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone.
Once asleep last night I never moved until 15 minutes ago. Dull here with very fresh winds. In anticipation of the oncoming rain I didn't water the garden last night. My plan was to mow the lawn but it's hardly grown since the last cut.
Thanks for the lovely comments about the bench, I sat outside on it yesterday evening. :j The companion 'side' table was made last night so will be with me later today. It too is fabulous.
Yesterday morning I was looking for something - took everything out of the drawer which was the most obvious place. So much junk! I've left it all out so that it will annoy me enough to sort through.
I've got a meeting today until 3pm.
As for the wretched crisp, peanut and chocolate tart...don't anyone bother! It was such a faff to make and wasn't worth the effort. In fact (and I'm whispering now) it won't be going with me to the meeting and may not even get eaten. No distinctive taste and very greasy. Yeugh!
Right, off. Get better soon and Happy Thursday to all.0 -
Morning all,
Rubbish nights sleep for me and when I did sleep I had bad dreams....I'm mithering over this blasted vacuum. I seem to be burning the motor out that turns the beater bar. Did it with me Shark and this Vax has gone the same.
Hoping for a better day today. I don't think I told you that I flooded the bathroom and hall yesterday. It took every towel I had in the house to mop up the water.
AOD I'm not sure if my vacuum will have to be sent away to be repaired which I'll have to check today. Sending it away to be repaired is no use to me. I'll be knee deep in dog hair by the time I get it back.
Holly my blood pressure readings were better throughout the day thankfully. Proof that my medication is working as it should.
Prodigal is still coming to me on a two daily basis. His latest crisis seems to be averted. He's got a few health issues though which doesn't seem to be clearing up.
The Blonde One is still upset over the 'No Diva sleeping over' rule. I can tell by her 'bulldog chewing a wasp' face when she drops Diva off on Mondays. I don't see her or hear from her other than that. Ungrateful child!
Blackun must be hungry. She was after the loo roll again in the early hours. Can't give her any more food as she will put on weight. She's got a bit of a round tummy as it is and she's got a heart murmur.
Onwards and forwards

Morning folks and thanks for kicking off HOLLY. Another beautiful start for us with wall to wall blue sky and sunshine. All change tomorrow apparently but boy do the gardens need some rain. We are now into our 6th week of rainless days!!
We have the first of this week's visits to Leeds today (back again tomorrow!) Today it's to see the Urologist as Mr TA's ureteric stent seems to be doing more harm than good. No problems with his first two but this one has him up to the loo every hour/hour & half through the night and he gets up shattered. He is hoping the Consultant will say they will remove it and see how he goes without. But, hey ho, they know best I suppose.
We have transport booked HOPEFULLY!! As it will only be the second time of having it we don't really trust the service yet and dread it not turning up. Not due until after lunch though as it's a late appointment - 4.15! And, as he always runs late, goodness knows what time we can expect to get home.
A few jobs lined up for this morning but nothing too taxing! Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care all xxx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Its a cracking day here again we have been lucky with the weather so far, off to work for me today.
I think I might do carbonara for dinner tonight there is a load of gammon left from the joint last night so will use that up.
Rubbish and recycling to go out this morning and I will need to do a wash tonight and have a sweep through.
BTDT I have found four lumps in my breast ( at different times) and have been to the clinic to get them all looked at, with mine they did a mammogram first then an examination and a scan, thank goodness mine turned out to be harmless blocked glands which they then syringed out, which was painless, fingers crossed it will be the same for you, I believe that they have to see everyone with a breast lump within two weeks so they are very on the ball with this xxx
Well done to your dil Snoozer xx
Welcome home Nels take it easy xx0 -
Good morning chums, and a beautiful sunny morning here in the Garden of England at the moment.
I have a bit of washing hanging out already, mainly thicker stuff.
Yesterday wasn't brilliant for drying stuff and there was even a small shower at lunchtime which hadn't been forecast but today looks good at the moment.
Last nights quiz went well, and we won two bottles of wine to go into the stash I think there is enough for a share out now. I shall have to check,
I have 12 members all told in the team but they don't all turn up on the same night, so its a floating pool. but everyone gets a share of the wine stash
This afternoon I have the AGM of our U3A branch to go to, so that will keep me busy I expect. We have over 300 members in our branch, but boy can they complain at timesbut volunteers are few and far between
Tomorrow I have an early start as I have to be at my dealerships main garage for my cars first service, and its 12 miles away so I will be up and on the road early as an 8.30. a.m. appointment is like gold dust, and I wait while they service it.The upside is I get free tea/coffee so I will take a book to readbut at least it won't use up the whole of the day.
Hope everyone has a good day and the sun shines down on you all
Cheers chums JackieO xx0 -
Morning everyone,
High cloud this morning and definitely cooler which is welcome, apart from a couple of calls of nature I slept right through to 7.30.
Fasting this morning, 16 hours through to lunch at midday, difficult as I’m a real breakfast kind of gal (favourite meal) but it’s a good way of doing the 5:2 Mediterranean diet and feel much better for it.
My new iron arrived yesterday, Judi they are my hoovers! but having searched on the forum and see what others recommended I plumped for a Phillips Azur, I also treated myself to a new ironing board cover and padding, get me :rotfl:
Loved the bench Gers perfect spot for a sundowner and you have a table coming too!
Have a good day folks x0
