Old Style Daily Tuesday 19th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
A friend has talked me into going away for a week somewhere warm so we are going to do a trawl of the internet and a wander around the travel agents in town and see if we can find a last minute deal that isn’t too expensive. We’re not really fussed where we go, we just want to get away.
I’m sure that while we are out we will stop somewhere for coffee and people watching. She is another one who enjoys people watching.
Housework will take a back seat today, and dinner will be something out of the freezer again. Yesterday I dug out a portion of lamb casserole and some mashed potato so that made a little space in the rather full freezers thankfully.
Snoozer I hope that you are feeling better today and have felt well enough to go to Bath.
Hope you enjoyed book club Nelksi
Have a good Tuesday everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning everyone and thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.
Not slept particularly well but I am hoping that as I become more relaxed, nth at might change.
I had a reasonably productive day yesterday, some cleaning done and ironing. To my disgust, some of yesterday's washing will need ironing. Not sure whether to do it as I go along or to assemble a mountain and tackle the lot in one go.
Made meatballs in a stroganoff sauce last night and that went down well with the chaps. I didn't have sour cream so used Greek yogurt, which we mostly always have in the fridge.
Elona, thank you for your suggestion, that's very similar to what I've been saying. My mum wants to expand the conversation but it is difficult for her to hear any comment that doesn't agree with her plans. She is going off for a holiday to an alpine ski resort out of season very soon. Her plan is to walk into the town in the mornings and return to spend the rest of the day at the hotel. Not sure how that will work out since I've looked the place up on Tr*pAdvisor and it is not an easy walk at all, especially for an older person with limited mobility. One part of the hotel has a lift so I'm hoping that she is in this part. I know that she misses her previous life full of holidays and trips and treats, it is not easy for her to accept that life changes. She has had a couple of shorter holidays in this country in the past few months and enjoyed those.
I am going to finish this cup of tea, make some toast and then I might see if we have anything recorded on TV, I don't want to disturb OH by going in search of a book from my to read pile.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
Brighter this morning but quite chilly compared to the past few weeks. Forgot to put the washing on so will do it later.
Might go to the cinema with work friends after work to see Book Club, will see who's going!
Hope you manage to get something booked Holly.
Nothing of note to share, just another day here plodding along. Enjoy your day and take care. XX0 -
Morning all and thanks HOLLY. A restless night here but nowt new in that.
I went in town yesterday, called in B**ts and, guess what, the medication recommended by St James last week hadn't reached them. So that's me back on the phone to the surgery this morning. They really are the most slack set up bunch working there now.
Not an entirely fruitless trip into town though. Noticed a 50% off sale in Clarks and felt compelled to have a look, even though I didn't really need anything! I spotted a pair of Cloudsteppers in a 3, half price, perfect for wearing with jeans/trousers, so treat myself as they felt so comfy. Plus bagged a few bargains in the chiller in the frozen food shop so that cushioned the blow of the missing prescription a bit.
Mr TA fancied a bit of porridge for brekkie yesterday so I made him a bowl using the Fortisip neutral. It went straight in the waste bin! Mind you, I had a little taste and agreed it was gross, I am giving up on the neutral now as everything I use it in gets left and chucked away.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Cloudy dull and dreich but dry. I have a wash load ready to peg out shortly.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, I remembered to get the pork steaks out to defrost, so tonight we'll have pork braised in gravy, mash and veg. Hairdresser is coming tonight, so dinner will be a bit later.
Yesterday work was slow to start but then went a bit manic, loads of unhappy customers, my colleague had a customer who was shouting and swearing at him on the phone, and due to the abuse terminated the call - he duly arrived in the shop to continue but got me - he wasn't as abusive/using foul language with me but wasn't happy, eventually I got him sorted and calmed down - but it take me best part of an hour. I was doing a different job in the afternoon and the phones were ringing off the hook - we'll see what today brings.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's a bit of a grey day here this morning so far but it may brighten up later on. Steve is on his last day of holiday so is having a lie in and the kids are all still asleep too so it's just me and the dogs keeping each other company.
Steve took me out for dinner last night to the seaside where we had a lovely meal and then sat outside and watched the tide come in. It would have been perfect if it wasn't so perishing cold but it did mean we had the outside deck to ourselves. When we got back he made me a lovely cup of tea which thawed me out nicely. It was the first time we had been out together since Valentine's day so it was well overdue and also meant we could talk in private about how the kids were doing.
I have my very good friend coming over for an hour this morning for a coffee and a catch up. She has been very poorly for the past few weeks so it will be fab to see her again. This afternoon my lovely cmht lady's big boss is coming to see me again as my lady is still off sick. I get on very well with the boss though so that will be good to see her too and keep her up to date with all the goings on here. It's nice that I am being kept an eye on especially with all of the recent events with Lee, I just need to find a way to have some privacy while we talk. Steve will be happy to take the dogs out but it's my nosy daughter Lilly who is the problem. I will just have to ask her to go up to her room out of the way.
AOD, maybe when your mum's holiday is more difficult for her than she imagines she will be more open to listening to reason. Just keep smiling and nodding as my kids would say x
TA, I'm so sorry you have all the worry about Mr TA. If he really can't stomach the Fortisip is there any way you could boost his calories just using butter and cream etc. I'm sure you have thought about that already but it might make him more inclined to eat even if it is just small amounts. I can't imagine what you are both going through, sending you loads of hugs xxxx
Holly, hope you manage to bag yourself a great holiday, I feel quite envious especially when I look out the window and it's all miserable out there. Enjoy your day out too x
Well, I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Just a quick drop in, I've got to rouse DM and get her up. She's definitely not a morning person.
Happy Tuesday to all.0 -
Holly, I hope you find a great holiday.
AOD, there's not a lot you can do if they dig in their heels is there?
Well I'm feeling quite a bit better apart from a very noisy stomach. I managed to eat a little bit last night and again this morning so I'm well on he mend.
So we'll be able to go to Bath after all, it's my birthday present from DD, DS and partners so I want to enjoy myself. I've planned a rudimentary itinerary - guided walk this evening, morning at the Thermae spa then site-seeing then when we leave on Thursday going to the American museum to see the quilts.0 -
Morning everyone and thanks for the start Holly, a holiday away sounds a good idea.
We are off into BurySTEd this morning, there are a few bits I need and OH said he will take a few hours off to come with me.
When I got to the yard yesterday Lu was already in her stable ( had been moved onto fresh grass and wanted to avoid over-eating ) only problem was the people who own the property that backs onto her stable were cutting down trees with a chain saw. My poor pony was covered in sweat and obviously really wound up
I darent try and get her out as soon as door was open she would have taken off. I stood at her door, tried to calm her and ended up putting her fly mask on as it has ear covers on it and thought that might deaden the noise a tad. Eventually they stopped and she calmed down, poor girlie. I did speak to the yard owner and she will have a chat with her neighbours about checking with her first.
Glad that you are feeling a tad better Snoozer.
Have a good day folks x0 -
Morning everyone.
Had a sever case of nippy eyes when the alarm went of this morning. The pleasure of closing them temporarily was bliss. However, I got up, made myself a coffee and toast with peanut butter. Been to the gym this morning and I'll go to my mums tonight to tie up some loose ends.
Last night, as usual, I had 2 x games of football. Swiftly followed by a quick bite to eat and bed.
HH - Happy holiday hunting. You can grab some really amazing bargains last minute.
Gers - Good luck!
Snoozer - When do you go?0
