Old Style Daily Sunday 17th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone :hello:
In the end I went with my niece to London for the day yesterday. It is so long since I last got the train to London that I had forgotten how bored I get on a two hour train journey. On the way back we ended up on the service that stops more frequently and that took and extra forty minutes.
Having said that, it was nice to have a day out with my niece, and she did take my poor aching feet into consideration with a number of pit stops for coffee. She bought herself some new clothes for her holiday and we had a nice meal before we got the train home.
I don’t think I will walk far today, I shall give my feet a rest and do a few things around the house.
I have found a recipe for a carrot cake that my dad used to make for me as a treat. He didn’t really cook but as far as I can recall he did make a really good carrot cake. I’m going to pop out to the supermarket for some cream cheese for the frosting when they open and have a go at this today. When I sorted the freezer out last week I found some sausage meat so will make some sausage rolls as I will have the oven on anyhow.
Time for some tea I think.
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Morning folks and thanks BTDT for the start.
Full on day yesterday with the DGDs as expected. We finally all sat down at 7.30 to watch The Greatest Showman. They had brought the dvd with them and as they had watched it numerous times already we had a running commentary on what was going to happen next! This morning youngest is to take over to Haworth for 10.00 for a pottery making party at Cobbles and Clay. DD is going to pick her up when it finishes, picking the other two up here en route. The house is like a bombsite but that can wait till tomorrow. This afternoon is earmarked for some me time, feet up with my nose in my book!
Mr TA was not at all well yesterday and I just hope he feels a bit better today. DD brought his Father's Day gifts when dropping the girls off yesterday morning and by last night the girls couldn't wait any longer for him opening them. DS will be calling at some point today with his offerings.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx
ps BTDT I don't like the sound of the mushroom porridge at all. But do let us know if you make it and, more to the point, what it's like!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning all
Its raining here this morning and very grey looking, off to work for me which I hope will be quiet, I really cant be doing with a busy run around day !
Last night for dinner dd cooked haloumi and falafel pitta breads with chips and salad it was very very tasty and something I shall do again.
Tonight I am not sure but I will get something out of the freezer after this and OH will cook.
Camelot my kitchen floor is currently up and in the garden ready for the tip, I have an industrial de-humidifier going 24 hrs a day for nearly a week now (the insurance company will pay for this) the leak has been temporarily fixed so we need to wait for the floor to dry out them fix the leak permanently then once we know its stopped leaking again we can lay the new floor
my beautiful kitchen looks like a bomb sitebut at least its being fixed, so wont be for much longer I hope xx
Happy Fathers day to everyone, always a day full of lovely memories for me xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all.
After the shopping trip yesterday, and after I finished the work I had wanted to do, I had a very quiet day. Giving DM lots of TLC was the order of the day. I think she ate properly for the first time in ages.
There was nothing I wanted to watch on TV so I opened up iPlayer and caught up with some old programmes. Could be a ditto day!
I'm still under the duvet and will be here a while longer.
Happy Sunday to everyone.0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off BTDT
Happy Fathers Day
Still miss my Dad, it's been over 30 years since he passed.
Not much happening today.
DS, DiL and DGS were going to visit yesterday afternoon. Had a message after lunch to say they weren't coming. Anyone for white chocolate cheesecake, strawberries and cake, I've lots to spare.
Hope you all have a good dayIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning everyone
beenthere_donethat - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
The weather yesterday was changeable first thing, quite cool, cloudy dull and spots of rain now and then, but then cleared in the late morning/afternoon to be periods of sunshine. Cloudy and breezy again this morning so not sure what we'll get today, I have some washing to peg out on the line shortly.
DH and I up enjoying first peaceful cuppas - both boys still in their pits. Dinner last night was ham, hot quiche, scotch egg, salad, picked onions, radishes, beetroot pasta salad/coleslaw etc. Today we'll be having roast lamb for lunch.
The yard sale was ok, not as many people wandering around and not huge amounts sold but enough to make the effort worthwhile. We also discovered that our new local charity shop (which is on a new shopping outlet will take pretty much anything and you just take your stuff to the big window at the back and they then take it to be sorted). We had several boxes of stuff from my parents that hadn't sold - and they'd said they didn't want anything back - so we charity shopped all that didn't sell. I signed up for gift aid for them whilst I was there as we've got a boot full to take today as we go past - bits that we weren't sure they would be able to take. As we continue to de-clutter that's where stuff is going to be taken. A charity close to our hearts too.
We'll be visiting my parents this morning, having visited yesterday and they were out, will take dad's father's day bits. We'll just be pottering about at home other than that. We go on hols soon, so looking forward to that - we're both in need of a break.
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone,
Another early riser here and have already been around the fields with mad spaniel, she is now snoozing in her basket and I’m waiting on DOH to get up so I can have coffee and bacon.
Not a lot planned for today, eldest DSS did message to say he was working all day but did his Dad and I fancy evening meal out, said yes but have heard nothing since so hopefully will do at some point!
Happy Fathers Day, bittersweet now for me after losing my darling Dad just over 5 years ago, he gave me many gifts including my love of horses and had a little ride on Bill at the grand old age of 80. Bless you Dad x
Have a good day all and enjoy your Sunday x0 -
Gers I'm under the duvet too. I've let the hounds out, made the coffees and got back into bed. Grump is sleeping soundly.
Morning all,
Skies are grey and temperature a bit on the cold side. Not sure what we are doing today. Grump was planning on finishing the front garden but its a bit wet. He was fitting mudflaps to Barbies jeep yesterday in the rain but he will regret it in the week I'm sure.
Youngest is still struggling with his hay fever though the air con helps. I'm expecting a delivery of medication from Australia in the week. It's the only stuff that helps. He was given it at the hospital once but our GP won't prescribe it so we buy it ourselves. He's ordered an air purifier for his room too. My neighbour has strimmed his overgrown garden and left the grass and weeds to turn to straw What with his junk piled up against the fence...He's annoying me now.
Thinking of all the Dads without their children today and all the children without their Dads today through no fault of their own.
Onwards and forwards

Remembering my lovely Dad too, he died in 2002. So lucky to have wonderful memories, some of us don’t I know.
Had a lovely time at open gardens yesterday. Bought a couple of plants and plan a gardening day today. Bit gloomy at present so might be in greenhouse first off.
gingered beef from freezer and whatever veg comes home from allotment for dinner today.
Have a good day everyone.Carolbee0 -
Morning everyone
Usual Sunday morning breakfast in bed with my laptop and then down to mam and dads in an hour or so.
My laptop did a Windows update last night which took ages and now I'm having to log in and save my details on all my sites.
Bit cloudy here this morning but hopefully it will be nicer than yesterday....it rained all afternoon and we had thunder.
Eldest DD has messaged me this morning to say she's crossed the border into Cambodia. They stay at a village tonight and have dinner with a local family.
Has anyone got any tips on how to keep communications open with youngest DD? Shes basically ignoring most messages I send and doesn't answer if I ring. I'm thinking give her space, with a text every few days. No massive fall out....she just would rather not be here!
Better start moving..hope everyone has a good day0
