Old Style Daily Saturday 16th June 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone

After tossing and turning for an hour and not being able to get back to sleep I gave up and got up an hour ago. I’ve just finished my book so thought I would have a read of the forums on here for a while.

Not much going on around here today. I want to go to the SM for a few salad bits and early before the usual Saturday rush.

I didn’t remember to go into M & S and pick up my parcel so I will do that while I’m out as well. If I go out for a walk today I will go in the opposite direction to normal to avoid the road closures because of this pop concert, I suspect the town will be mega busy as well.

I would usually avoid the seaside on a Saturday because it is busy and I am able to go during the week, but I may well get a train and go somewhere for a change.

I seem to be in a bit of an indecisive mood already.

Have a good Saturday everyone whatever you are doing.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

I'm another member of the early birds club. I don't feel as shattered as usual so that is something I suppose. The rest of the house are fast asleep, I can even hear the dogs snoring in the living room.

One of the reasons I am finding it hard to sleep is that my beautiful Becky did something very brave and came out to us as being transgender and now wishes to be known as Oleander or Lee for short. I am a very old fashioned person really and find it very very difficult to comprehend but I will respect his wishes and support him. I am grieving for my daughter though and I think it will take me a while to get used to the idea. Please, are there any of you who have experienced anything similar who could pm me with advice of how not to mess this up. I have a load of websites to plough through but it feels very overwhelming at the moment.

Steve had the day off yesterday and has also booked Monday and Tuesday off as well so we are having a lovely long weekend together. He takes over the cooking on the weekend as well and I think we are going to have chicken salad for dinner. I will get him to make a nice potato salad to go with it and I will be happy. Tomorrow we are having roast lamb and lots of veg. We have made great inroads into clearing the freezer but we still have loads of food to use up.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
  • Morning folks and thanks for the start HOLLY. I had a night of waking and sleeping thanks to a very painful arm/shoulder that came from nowhere yesterday. This time it's my right arm which is somewhat incapacitating as I am right-handed. It's just taken months for my left arm to heal from a similar thing. I hope this doesn't take as long.

Oh DUMPLING yet something else for you to cope with. I can't offer any advice at all but my DD's friend's son went through the same at a very young age and has been a girl (and a very pretty one) ever since. It was a shock to them but they have coped, just as you will find the strength to do. x

A busy w/e ahead for us. DD, her BF and her bezzie are off to a music festival in Leeds and guess who has got the 3 girls! They will be here about 10.00 until 12.00 tomorrow and there will be much ferrying about to do as the 2 younger ones have dance rehearsals (at different times) today in readiness for ballet/tap exams mid week. Then tomorrow morning youngest is to take up to Haworth for a birthday "party" pottery painting.

I am organised with child friendly meals today. Pizza and chips for lunch and a big shepherd's pie tonight. Mince been defrosting o/n so I will make a start on that shortly then it's ready to just throw in the oven tonight.

Have a lovely day folks and ((HUGS)) where wanted/needed and take care all whatever you are up to xx

Morning all, thank you for starting the thread Hollyharvey.

I got up at 3. 30 but was asleep before 11 so that's a few hours and although I do feel a little tired, it is as nothing to the brain-numbing exhaustion of the last few months. OH did not steal the duvet and in fairness to him, he doesn't do it regularly.

Hollyharvey have a good time, I sometimes choose to visit nearby towns just for a bit of variety, can usually find something to see.

Elona, I did like your response for Nelski's mum, and I see that Nelski is aware of the insurance issue - I'm aware of that since I've had to have several periods of not driving following surgery. Haven't driven for years now, I don't like driving the car we have, it is not the sort of car I like, very heavy handling.

We have rain and although it is only light, storms are predicted for later, that should freshen things up a bit.

Yesterday I did a Friday Tidy and now the sitting room looks as though 47 bears have been having a party in it. With scraps of paper and crumbs.

Mehefin, thank you for the explanation about Bruise are and the hoof.

Dumpling, this must be a really confusing thing emotionally. Lee will need all your support and from reading your posts over a long time, it is so clear that you are a very loving mum.

I am going to do some more messing about now
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone

hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up and enjoying first cuppas, had a shower and just finished my brekkie, as I'll be getting my face on and then starting to set up for the yard sale - early start here, both boys have a cuppa in bed also, they'll be helping.

Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/salad, tonight will be ham, hot quiche, scotch eggs, skinny fries and salad, pasta salad etc.

Yesterday I was reasonably productive, and got our bed stripped, re-made and bed linen all washed and line dried, and back in the airing cupboard. The downstairs of the house looks like a bomb site at the moment with all the yard sale stuff laying everywhere, hoping to make some good sales - what we don't sell we're taking to the charity shop.

    Keep safe and well x

Its a bit overcast here atm with a chance of rain later on, off to work for me so selfishly I do hope for rain so that its quiet, im hoping that this will be my last weekend as out new building / caf! will be open very soon and I then change to running our existing caf! which will be Mon - Fri :j

OH and dd in charge of domestics today, the freezer is full of food so plenty to cook and there is loads of veg and spuds in the fridge, so we wont go hungry.

Dumpling I have no experience but I think its fab that you have taken this so well and are already calling him Lee and calling him a him, he needs to understand as well that this is a huge shock for you all and that it will take a time for you to process it and that you may slip up and call him by his old name from time to time, big hugs to you all and how brave of Lee, that must have been on his mind worrying him for ages xx

Did a wash last night and put it on the airer, I will put a towel load in before I go to work for the others to hang out today.

Right best get on have good days all xx

    Morning All

A wet start, looks like it could go on all day. Washing on the pulley and more to do, I'll have to get the airer out.

I don't have any advice dumpling but you are will always be Lee's Mum no matter what. Your love and support shines through.

You're a super mum and gran TA.

Any news on the kitchen RR? Hoping this is your last weekend of work.

Yoga this morning and depending on the weather may visit the allotment, called on my way home yesterday and everything has grown so much since we've had rain, I'll have to make some more supports for the peas, they are all over the place!

Have a good weekend, take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Am sorry Dumpling but I have no experience of dealing with that sort of thing, is their any kind of parent support group that you can get in touch with? Hugs to you all, especially to Lee for having the courage to be honest about how he feels.

Overcast and mizzly here today, we could certainly do with the rain as the grass is already brown in places.
Not a lot planned for today, need to get out to the farm shop for some meat etc, I fancy a beef brisket for tomorrow but will see what the butcher has, neither of DSS’s have shown any indication of coming to see their Dad tomorrow but we might have a visit.
Will get over to see Lu later, I didn’t get over yesterday as was in Cambridge with a pal so hopefully horsey won’t be in a sulk with me, she can be a jealous little Madam at times. I was in her field with her the other day and the horse in the next paddock wandered over to say hello, well my girlie forced her not inconsiderable body between me and this other horse to physically stop me from petting it, talk about you are my Mum and no one else’s!

Right, time for another cuppa, have a good day folks x

    Morning

Raining here at last the garden will be drinking it up.

Had a more restful day yesterday a friend came round at lunchtime and ended up staying a few hours so we sorted the world out over a bottle of cheeky rose :) Not happy with my wound at the moment its not behaving itself and my skin is reacting badly to every dressing put on the moment. Theres nothing worse than having a masssive itchy area and not being able to do anything about it its torture :eek:Ive left the dressing off for now but I know it cant stay like that.

Asda are bringing my shopping round today and if its my usual man he will probably pop it in the kitchen for me which will be a big help. Should be getting a delivery from Boots today as well I ordered some magicool as these muggy nights along with having to sleep on my back means I am getting no sleep at all. Hopefully being a bit cooler will help.

This morning i have my befriending call then will no doubt hobble over to James' for brunch :) Out to a very posh chinese tonight with some friends need to find an outfit that can be accessorised well with crutches :rotfl:

TA you are an incredible mum you do so much for your kids despite all you have to cope with with Mr TA I hope they all appreciate you

Have a great Saturday all :A

Good morning folks, and what a glorious morning it is in Kent, the sun is out and it feels very mild at the moment ,hopefully it will stay that way .

Dumpling you will always be Lee's Mum and will be I'm sure a great support for him at this time.

Pottering day today but I am off out tonight to a charity quiz night with my team so I shall have a late lunch as I don't like to eat before going out in the evening.

Right must get a wriggle on as I want to make some cheese and onion rolls for my veggie team mates for tonight's quiz, we all take some nibbles along with us and I made some for the last quiz and even us meat eaters enjoyed them.

Have a great weekend chums and if you have some enjoy the sun.

    enjoy your chinese nelski xx
