Strawberry glut time, so jam making is about to start. I can buy ordinary sugar for very little, but jam sugar from Sainsbury's is £2/Kilo, which adds about 50p to the cost of each jar just for pectin.
Any suggestions of the most cost effective place to get jam sugar or pectin?

Adding lemon juice to strawberries would increase the pectin level cheaply. The best portion of your life will be the small, nameless moments you spend smiling with someone who matters to you.0

I have been making strawberry jam for more years than I care to think about and my mother before that with neither of us adding pectin, it is a disgusting addition that make it taste like shop bought jam.
4 ingredients only -
berries
sugar
lemon juice

Just accept that your jam will be slightly runny and enjoy the rich flavour.0 -
One bag of Jam Sugar per batch is usually enough when we make damson jam. Though it may vary with the fruit.I need to think of something new here...0

Interesting points, I had bought a kilo of jam sugar and used this for the first batch, so will see if I notice the flavour difference. Never needed it with damson jam, seems to set really easily for me.0

you can make your own pectin using apple peel, pips and cores, just use enough water to cover then cook slowley for about 45 mins, strain through muslin, can be frozen. (make apple pie with apples).Sealed pot challenge member 4370

Adding a chunk of lemon (or orange) peel will up the pectin levels still further. IIRC there is more in the peel than in the pulp/juice - also it is easier to fish-out at the end.0
