Any use for apples soaked in vodka?
I've made some spiced apple vodka which is finally ready for bottling (drinking!) It seems like a shame to just chuck the apples, so any ideas on how to use them? Would they work in a crumble or something? TIA!

Carpet disaster - need help
I desperately need help with a carpet disaster. I have a cream carpet which unfortunately suffered a red wine stain last weekend. Before I became aware of the spill one of my guests had sprayed vanish foam on the carpet which did remove a small amount of the stain. The next day I tackled it with my vax machine again it…

Knitting for a baby - help with colours?
I'm knitting for a baby but don't know if it's a boy or girl. I'm getting sick of mint/lemon/cream/white. Can anyone suggest nice coloured yarn that would suit the baby either way?

Freezing onions and other things
Hello I was reading an old thread about freezing onions and it seems the consensus was that it is ok to chop and freeze onions for future use in cooking. However, I was wondering if you used the frozen onions to cook a meal, can you then freeze that meal? I know that you can re-freeze supermarket frozen veg like peas. The…

Looking for serving spoons - any help, please?
After x years of wedded bliss, I find I'm still using the inadequate serving spoons we first had as a wedding present. They just don't scoop up enough! I need something which looks like your average, stainless steel serving spoon but has a larger bowl, without becoming a ladle! My researches on ebay etc have got me…

Salvage my ciabatta
I've got a ciabatta loaf I bough yesterday, the plan being to use it tonight with a stir fry so I don't have to bother with rice. However it's gone a bit stale and past its prime overnight - anything I can do with it to make it more edible?

Advent calender ideas
I've been mulling over buying a wooden advent calendar to be passed down the generations as life moves on. Something like this: My question is, what would you fill them with? I am loathe to pop a sweetie in each drawer but even less inclined to buy plastic junk "toys", its bad for the environment. Wise thoughts and dares…

Re-use your old 2015 Calendar
Don't throw your 2015 calendar away at the end of the year! The year 2026 is exactly the same as 2015, so keep your 2015 calendar in a drawer for ten years and you'll be quids in! I'd like to claim credit for this money saving tip but credit where it's due, I nicked the idea (sorry, re-used it) from the 2016 year planner…

Shirley Goode
I was very sad to hear that Shirley Goode had passed away last week. She published several books about money saving and also appeared on TV. There is quite a bit about her on the internet and you can still get her books from Amazon. She really was an amazing lady, well ahead of her time in the money saving stakes. One of…

Roast chicken
Got some good friends coming for supper tomorrow so will be doing roast chicken. I fully intended to do it in a roasting tray but as my oven is fairly new the thought of it getting splattered etc etc then having to clean it doesn't appeal. I thought I'd try and do it in a dutch oven (Le Creuset casserole). Have seen a…
