O/S Daily Friday 13th November 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.

Now getting light, still quite windy, but looks dry underfoot.

Dinner last night was scampi, chips, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had cod, jacket potato and veg, ice cream for dessert. Tonight we’re having chicken curry, rice, with accompaniments and a side of veg curry.

I wasn’t as productive yesterday as I should have been, although I did get to MrT used the boost offer and made a start on my xmas shopping – 1 of my nephew’s birthday is next week, so got his prezzie and card sorted, wrapped and posted off. I also sorted the xmas prezzies for him, his bro and sister, then my friend’s 2 children who are similar ages. I also bought a toiletry set each for my boys as they were on half price offer – so at least I’ve made a start and it didn’t cost very much at all. I have a week’s leave week after next, and that’s when I really get stuck in, get the prezzie shopping done, get them wrapped, make the xmas cake and xmas puds – this year I’m going to endeavour to get the shopping etc done on the first day, and wrapped – then doing the cooking the next day, and spent the rest of the week giving the house a blitz, it’s a state and I need to get stuck in, once DH has finished the caravan job, which is next weekend, we’ll be getting rid of all the stuff that we store that goes with that position – we have mountains of paperwork that we’ll be able to get rid of and some equipment, so I have to areas that will be need tidying up.

Today I’m going to visit the SM at 8am – have found this is so much better as it’s heaving later and a nightmare. Going so early all the shelves are fully stacked and it’s nowhere near as busy – I’m on my way out as lots of people are on their way in! I’ll be also getting stuck in to the ironing as have managed to get it all washed and dried using a mixture of TD and line drying, have stripped, washed and changed 1 bed need to get the other 2 done today. Will run the hoover over at some point and try to get some baking done as nothing in the tins.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone.

Well, all is calm in Glasgow so far. No rain and no wind here though I understand things are rough further north. I turned our router off before I left yesterday in case it got hit by lightning.

My plane is at 2.00pm and I've got some chores to do this morning. I have to go to mum's building society to sort out her four savings accounts, can't work out which is still active. Luckily we registered my POA with them last year so it should be easy enough.

Breakfast will be my free coffee at W'rose probably.

Hope everyone is doing well and has a good Friday.
  • Morning all!

I'm having a NSD today. I'll be staying in the house and using up food from stores for brekkie, lunch and Dinner.

Planning on sitting down and writing out a savings schedule for next couple of months, December will likely be slightly expensive for us but I'm not planning on buying many presents or anything now.

might head out to the gym later - get a little exercise in!

    Morning All

Cold this morning, the rough weather is due to come back later, deep joy!

Nothing to report, just glad it's Friday.

Hugs to all in need. Take care. XX

I'm off to work in sec, I'm having porridge for breakfast, hubby has a cuppa & the fish are waiting to be fed.
I got a sensible text from FIL last night, all the family phone him regularly with varying degrees of success.
Hubby is feeling & coping better, work have been very good, letting us both have the time off that we needed, just the funeral to get through now.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone.

Just back from walking the girls, it's clear and bright but feels much colder, the wind has a definite bite to it, bbrrr.

Not loads planned for today, need to whizz through the house but am trying to do a little bit every day so am not left with loads tbh, will then be off to the yard to walk Bill, hope the rain holds off.

We will need to go into town this afternoon, have to pay my Solicitors Bill and pick up a few bits for the weekend, still eating out of the freezer so doing well.

Hope everyone has a good day xx
  • Morning everybody. All is calm outside so Abigail seems to have bypassed us, though we did get some heavy rain yesterday evening.

I got my crumble tray bakes made, sliced up and frozen yesterday, so that's some of the bilberries and gooseberries from last year used up at last! (Still more in there!) Today I want to make a big batch of pastry in readiness for the Xmas bakes (mince pies, tarts, quiches etc). I'll freeze in blocks until needed.

But first I have the delights of the Friday cleaning day in store. We have had a reprieve from the 3 DGDs sleeping, with subsequent school run this morning, as Mr TA was instructed to stay clear of pregnant ladies and children for four days in view of his radioactivity! He's still feeling very tired and lethargic but I hope he may perk up when he has had his injection next week. This had to be postponed until a week after the therapy.

Have a good day all ((((((HUGS))))))) for those wanting/needing them. HESTER I'm glad things seem a bit calmer for you now. Take care all xx

    Morning all,

Up a bit earlier than normal for me as DD has to go to Croydon on the train today, its for her placement this is the second time she has been but she will be on her own today, she will be meeting a young homeless person and giving them the key to a new place, I worry myself silly over things like this, but this is the career she has chosen so I have to let her get on with it :o

Work for me today but at least its Friday we are short staffed today it will be busy but the day will go quickly.

Dinner tonight will be a takeaway probably Indian as its OH week to choose and we also have his friend coming over for the evening, I would much rather get home and flop on the sofa in my pyjamas but im sure it will be pleasant enough.

Have good day all and hugs to those who need them xx

    Morning all

Still windy here but I think we got off lightly compared to the north of Scotland gers hope everything is ok when you return X

Need to catch up with the washing , if it stays windy but dry as it is at the moment I' ll attempt to peg the washing out ( double peg)

I had a productive day yesterday , did a good amount of Xmas shopping , only need to finish off the dd's and DH :j got wrapping paper too :D when I got back I cut the grass and tidied the garden , most of the leaves are down now so there's only a sprinkle on the lawn this morning

This weekend is the 1st anniversary of my dads passing , I can't believe it's been a year , I'm planning on going down to my mums , and cooking her a meal and we can sit and chat , I'll pick up some flowers for her too. She's doing so well and it must be so hard . She lives a good way from us so I only get down every 2 weeks or so , so she has a lot of time on her own . she wouldn't consider moving though not until she couldn't manage anyway

Right off to make a cuppa , have a lovely day everyone xx

Ps redruby dd will be fine , it's so hard not to worry I know xx
  • Morning all. I am not looking for sympathy but want to give you all a laugh on this cold morning.
Woke up at stupid o'clock and as I got out of bed and went to get in my wheelchair the brake was off and it went sliding back with me ending up face down on the floor, which is not anything new. It all seemed to happen in slow motion so I wasn't hurt, well except my pride. ;) My wife lifted her sleepy head up off the pillow and asked are you awake honey? which turned my expletives into laughter. She got me sorted then went back to sleep as she works and is a wonderful mum to our 4 children.
So my day will be spent dividing my time between the sofa and my bed until pandemonium ensues this evening.
Any telly recommendations welcomed unless they contain a persons name. :rotfl:
