O/S Daily Thursday 12th November 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up gone to work early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him in a bit.
Now getting light, wind has now eased off. Have a load of wet washing, I’ll put out on the line shortly.
Dinner last night was spag bol, it was delicious, I’ve found cooking the sauce slowly for quite a while seems to give it a better depth of flavour. There was a small portion left, which is going to go in the freezer. Tonight the menfolk are having scampi, chips and beans, I’ll be having a portion of cod, jacket potato and veg.
Work yesterday wasn’t as busy but I worked until lunchtime, then managed to go to the local butchers to order my xmas meat hamper – he does a weekly payment scheme so you can spread the cost, but this year seems to have flown by so quickly I didn’t get organised at the start of the year! I needed to pay some money towards it, so have paid for the whole thing in 1 go, at least it’s sorted now, I just need to organise the rest of the xmas now! I haven’t bought a single prezzie as yet so will be getting on to that over the next couple of weeks – also have DH’s last weekend doing his caravan job not this weekend but next, then we should have more spare time. I have quite a bit I need to organise for that so must get on with it all. Hoping I can make some headway with everything today. I’m going into work today for a training session and have a nail appointment later hence why we’re having a quick dinner tonight at nails are at 3.30pm.
I’ll be cracking on with the housework, washing, drying and ironing today also.
Keep safe and well x

Morning, hope everyone is well. I feel better though rather tired, so will go to work soon. Yesterday was quite thrifty in a way as I couldn't really eat, but the DH as DS always manage great wodges of meat which I don't want anyway. Must go and have a fast shower, at least will be using shower gel reduced in a sale.
Also no heating, not quite cold enoughI was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
I'm absolutely shattered, I collected hubby from work just before 10 when he finished, at 10:30 his phone rang, there was a problem at school the alarm company were on site but had the wrong keys! So we drove up there wit a set of keys to find it was a fault on the panel, it was 11:30 before we left site.
The fish have been fed, hubby has a cuppa & I'm about to set off for work.
Weigh in last night & I'd gained half a pound, after the last few weeks I'm surprised it wasn't more!
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning all. The calm before the storm here! All quiet and still with a sunny morning forecast. However, Abigail is due late afternoon. Oh I do hate wind.
After our stressful few days away for Mr TA's therapy we enjoyed a lazy day yesterday. Mr TA still very tired and spent most of the day on the sofa. I didn't do a lot myself, did the washing we'd brought back and made a big batch of crumble mix in the processor. Now in the fridge and I have some of last year's bilberries thawing for the base. I'll do a large tray and freeze in squares. Now Mr TA is eating better I'll start making inroads into all last year's foraged fruit (still more bilberries, blackberries and gooseberries in there) and make some pies too to freeze. I'm determined to get some weight back on him!
Need to do a bit of shopping today. Plenty in the freezer but the fridge and veg boxes are looking pretty bare. Just Aldi but will pop in Iceland too as I have a voucher for a free box of their luxury mince pies. I always make my own but as they are free it would be daft not to get them! They'll make a quick dessert with some custard.
Have a good day everybody. Glad you feel a bit better AOD. LAINEY hope you get better news about your boy today. LW are the paws improving?! HESTER try and take it easy (((((((HUGS))))))) to all in need/want them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone.
The rain lashed down and the wind howled for a lot if the night. I woke at midnight and stayed that way until about 3.30am. No idea why!
Yesterday's teaching was difficult - two hours for seven people to set up email addresses each and send one email each. They were very confused, or should I say 'confounded' by the method, the tab key and 'restarting'. Anyway, that's why I'm there so it was OK by me.
My casual work doing internal verification has turned into a two days a month proper contract. I'm getting more work than I wanted since moving here and leaving my full time job.
OH caved in and stayed put. Sense prevailed at last. I'm going to head down to Glasgow later this morning as the yellow alert has been upgraded to an amber one, which is more serious. If my Friday flight is cancelled I'll be a very unhappy bunny indeed. My supply of PMA is running out.
During my wakelessness hours I had Radio 5Live on and one of the spots was animal stuff. The chap was the one who invented the Halti for dogs which pull. He said that othe halters put pressure on the back of a dog, like a husky one, and so encourage pulling. Using a long lead (2metres at least) gives the dog confidence and then encourage them back to your side with food, let it go away again and repeat. I've never had a dog so can't comment.
Another chap I heard, later on, was a scientist who talked about humans having a two sleep rhythm in ancient times. Go to bed as soon as it's dark, sleep for three or four hours, get up and do things as normal and then go back to bed for four or five more hours. Seems that lots of us still do it.
My time awake wasn't wasted - I learnt a lot. Just another hour under the duvet for me.
Hope everyone has a better day than the west coast.0 -
Morning all,
Bit dark to see what the weather is like but we are supposed to be getting the end of the hurricane today but we will see !
Off to work today at the busier site always lots to do there. Dinner tonight will be something and chips possibly chicken goujons, and peas. I need to do a wash tonight and the shopping is being delivered.
Lainey I do hope your boy is ok xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning All
HH - Just what you needed!
BB - Good to hear from you.
TA - Hope you've recovered from your hectic few days and Mr TA's treatment is working.
More heavy rain overnight but seems to be dry at the minute. Washing folded and taken upstairs, it was mainly towels so easy to put away.
Went to see Me and My Girl last night, it was an Am Dram production and generally quite good but some bits were hilarious (not sure they should have been!). The traffic was really bad so we didn't have long for something to eat, just about managed to shovel in a curry which was nice. I was woken by the alarm this morning so will be tired later (it doesn't take much!).
Have a good day. Take care. XX0 -
Morning all.
Rain overnight but no wind. Not sure if or when Abigail will hit my part of the country.
Early morning message from hubby says that Youngest is homesick.
In half an hour my whirlwind of a Grandson will be here. He's always grumpy on a morning as he loves his bed and hates being woken up...which reminds me. I need to open the gate.
Onwards and forwards,
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning
Today is the start of 2 weeks off work :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j what a relief
I am currently lazing on the sofa with a cuppa , I do intend to get ready soon as I'm dragging DH Xmas shopping :xmastree:
He hates it , and so I have always done all the Xmas shopping on my own , but he's retired now so no excuses
I need to give the house a good clean as somehow it's a pigging tip
But I'm going to take my time over the next couple of days and give it a good sort , I need to defrost the freezer ready for Xmas , I'm pretty sure defrosting it will increase its capacity by about 60%:rotfl:
Hope everyone has a lovely day xx0 -
Good Morning everyone grey sky and very still here this morning and still MUCH too warm for comfort. Had a really bad night last night partly being too hot and mostly because there was an engine going on the river for most of the night, I think they're dredging an extra deep channel for these new super cruise liners to get in to Southampton and do it at night, yukkk!
Off to visit my Zebra today and I've found him a new book and have got him some small packets of cheesy biscuits and a very big satsuma, he'll be a happy bunny. Hoping we don't get caught up in 'Abigail' on our way home from the west country tonight but have put in an overnight bag in case the winds make it too hazardous to chance the motorways, with any luck we'll be back here before it all kicks off. Stay safe in the north if you're going to take full brunt of the storm.
Have yourselves a good day all, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning ((((((((((hugs))))))))))if you need one. Very tired and sore this morning. Kept waking in the night because bits of me were sore. OH up, so got my brekkie in bed. Must shake myself and get going.
Looks like a reasonable day, sun appears to be shining! OH is going out to the garden.
It's been a quiet week, no rushing around for a change.0
