Best (cheapish) hand mixer?
I am looking to buy a hand mixer. I have a stand mixer but sometimes I think I have better control with a hand mixer when doing smallish amounts of cake mix. I want one that has beaters and/or whisks. I don't need the dough hooks. I'm looking to spend about £20.00. Maybe a bit more if it's a gooden. Anyone recommend a good…

The Kenwood Juicer
Do I really need the Juicer? I recently bought the Kenwood Chef KMC010 the machine included a blender attachment which I’ve found very useful. I’m now thinking of a juicer but was put off by an acquaintance who suggested that a simple nut milk filter bag is sufficient to separate the fibre from the juice. Yet do a Google…

Spurious Question Alert: How long will Roast Chicken stay fresh?
Good Evening, Please forgive me if it is an obvious one! I picked up a stuffed roast chicken that was on offer in Aldi yesterday and it is currently cooking away in the oven. However, there is only my son (3) and I (and 2 greedy cats) in the household. I have 2 questions: A) how long will it keep in the fridge? I…

Is honey a good substitute for sugar?
Me again. Just wondering as my boyfriend now has honey in his tea and coffee rather than sugar, he says its healthier and has weaned him off sugar altogether. I have tried it and I must admit it is nice but then I read where although honey has no fat in it at all, it has more calories than sugar. So now I don't know what…

Vegetable steamer - any good?
I am thinking of getting a simple veg steamer as my sister in law has got one and said its the best thing she's ever had. Yet a friend today has told me that steamed veg is tasteless so I don't know what to do now. I am usually a ready meal kind of girl but have started buying veg in packs already prepared and the steamed…

divided mop bucket
I can remember metal buckets for mopping the floor which were divided in two so that the mop was squeezed into the dirty water side and then dipped into the clean/detergenty water and squeezed again before using the clean mop to wipe/mop the floor. This seems such a good idea but I can't find such a bucket. Has anyone seen…

Food planning/shopping advice
I feel that we have not been very efficient recently and have been popping out for "bits and pieces" and spending more than we need to. My "new" plan is as follows:- 1. Do a meal plan for evening meals 2. Keep 2 running shopping lists - 1 for Tesco and 1 for Lidl 3. Shop once per week at Lidl (probably Thursday when their…

Dehydrating using a halogen oven?
Has anyone tried using a halogen oven to dehydrate fruits and vegetables in place of a dehydrator? I have used my oven in the past, but they always burn and my mum complains that the oven is on for hours. Our oven isn't very good as you have to guess the oven temperature. We did have a thermometer in the oven, but my mum…

Meal Suggestions etc, Please (I have £30 A Fortnight to Spend).
This is an ongoing situation and with cats and bills etc, i usually have only £15 a week to feed myself. I don't really like meat, as such. Fish is ok. Pasta, rice, sauces, bread, potatoes and eggs are my normal (carbohydrate rich) meals. Has anybody got any 'new' ideas they can share with me, please? I have become rather…
