O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 12th August

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning, just woke up. Off to put the kettle on.
Chat later....
Well! up and had breakfast. grapes and some toast.

Grouse shooting starts today. So sad to kill another life just for sport.

Robin Williams took his own life at the age of 63, TV says depression, drink and drugs.
I think it is sad that now he is dead how people come out to say he was their best friend. Where were these friends when he was so troubled?
It was the same with the floods - people wanting their photo's taken for the TV.

Lots of pubs closing down. 31 every week = that is a lot of pubs in the UK.
x3 I know of on our long road have. People will always find money for drinks.. I think more are drinking at home or each other's houses.

Yes, I have the BBC news on.

Lilyplonk - I have a Apple mini ipad as well as a old desktop computer.
I like my ipad, I never really got on with the family laptop.
The ipad is small. Light to carry around and use in different rooms. I have mini Logitech keyboard stand for it.

Yesterday afternoon Husband and I took the dog in the car to a well know area at the other end of town with fields and tree's. Our dog had a good run around and we met a 11 week old German Shepard. The owner was not ready to be friendly and after a greeting took the puppy to a different area. It looked cute.

I do hope these showers will end by the weekend. I have been invited to a family Birthday/engagement party BBQ in the garden.

Completed the morning surveys.
Won £10 Amazon voucher for a diffrent web page - winner of the month prize draw :)

Read the fuel meters. We are running at £1.90 a day for gas and electric @ the moment.
Applied to change tarrifs online with Scottish Power. It appears the new "Online fixed price energy September 15 is £25 cheaper per year than the one I am on."
Small savings always count in my penny pinching :0)
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

• Good morning,

Sun is shining this morning and the wind has dropped.

I just want to say I am so sorry and shocked to hear of the death of Robin Williams. Such a talented man, but often seemed a troubled soul.

RIP Robin

Will be back later

That shed is a nightmare. I have no idea how many times I've sorted it out, but it's too many. I managed to make space for the pots and a few other gardening things. Am seriously tempted to throw the lot out and turn it into a craft room/office.

The potatoes are ready, two varieties have done well but the others are a bit small. I'll add the two to my 'good veg' list :D I have a few more tomatoes and a couple of courgettes too. I'm going to sow more lettuce seeds today.

Morning all :)

DS1 got back safely yesterday and said the festival was great. I have yet to open his rucksack, but expect he brought half the mud home with him!

I had my 2nd appointment with physio who said I'd made really good progression on my pelvic floor. I'm so happy because I thought in would need another prolapse operation but she thinks we can fix it by exercises :T

Going to make bread and soup today. Sausages and pork chops for dinner tonight, with garden beans and mash.

Have a lovely day all, hugs for you if you need them xx

Morning everyone - just a quickie from me.

Raining here and very blowy though the office is fairly hot as usual.

Drove down from up north yesterday morning in a 'pilot' of staying over one extra night. Would have been perfect if 1) there had been no high winds and 2) I had remembered that part of the A83 at Furnace had overnight roadworks and is closed until 6.00a.m. Anyway, once I got through the journey was really easy as the roads were almost empty and it was so much easier to get past any slow vehicles. We have loads of tree trunk transporters going up and down the roads. So, I may try this next Monday again, roadworks due to finish on Friday.

Nothing much else to report from Gers towers - another day at work to keep the wolves from the door.

Hope everyone has a good day.

:hello: Hello everybody - looks as though 'peace' has finally broken out on our weather front today :). Hurricane Bertha seemed to 'side-swipe' us twice - Sunday and again yesterday.

TTFTM - thanks for starting the thread.
good advice - already got my coffee1.gif before switching the pc on ;).
HH - have a good time with your dgd :). Did you work your way through your beetroot mountain?
mrs m-h - HS18791paws.gif for you and your ds - this is something that our family has been through with our 'adorable' dgs1. He's 13 now - in senior school - and has got the combination of ADHD/ASD/Dyslexia/Dyspraxia. Luckily he's found 'an interest' that can hold his attention and stops him from disrupting the entire household ALL the time. Hope you soon see some light at the end of the long, dark tunnel you're in at the moment. Judi is right - 'A woman is like a tea-bag - you never know how strong she is till you 'put her into hot water'!
VfM4meplse - best of luck with those apples - don't envy you that amount to be peeled/cooked/stored - hope you've got lots of freezer space!
Julia Penguin - welcome to the thread . Sounds like you've both had a rough time. Join us on here - we might not be able to help, but we're darn good listeners. Enjoy your trip to Scotland.
dandy candy - I'd recommend - from personal experience :o - that you open ds's rucksack outdoors and give everything a darn good shake/rub to get off any dried-on mud ....... before bringing it back into the house ;).

all our gardeners - well done :T - hope you're enjoying the picking/preserving/eating of your hard-earned produce :j.
all our holidaymakers - hope you're all enjoying your onvacation.gif.
all our 'workers' - have a good day - hope people are 'kind' to you while you're there.

HScyboie_glitters.gif to all who are struggling financially, having health problems or worrying about poorly 'family members' - the human AND the furry ones ;).

Didn't manage to get out into the garden at all yesterday - the sunshine didn't last long and then it was torrential rain/wind on and off for the remainder of the day.
Did manage to finish the matinee coat that I was working on though.
Tried to 'sort out' mum's knitting needles  - could do with loads of elastic bands to hold them together in pairs before taking them to the CS. There's quite a few ££'s worth as we sell them at 50p a pair :j.

Plans for today include:
• Make packed lunches for OH and myself to take with us.
• Get something out of the freezer for evening meal - think it's going to be Pork Steaks for tonight .
• Have a charbathe.gif in a few minutes.
• Extra shift in CS this afternoon - take some of Mum's stash of 'costume jewellery' with me. The 'jigsaw mountain' can wait until I've got transport to get me there!

I really need to 'shift my a$re' this morning, or I'll never get anywhere today .......

speak again later - luv Lilyplonk xx
• Good morning everyone :)

I wrote my post earlier then started reading about Robin Williams and must have lost it. I adored Robin Williams, what a tragic end for him, it makes me feel incredibly sad and helpless that so many people go through their lives without anyone knowing what's in their head. The hidden illnesses are so cruel :(

Mrs MH - I have seen melatonin make a massive difference to children's lives and their parents too. I hope this works for that beautiful little boy x

Welcome back JuliaPenguin - you sound like you have been really going through a bad time, when life is like that money is just unimportant. I hope you have a lovely holiday x

Molly - hope you are feeling ok and being kind to yourself x

Judi - big hugs for you x

LW - when is Mr LW's op? I hope you are both ok x

LilyPlonk - is your CS in Prescot? Would you like to PM me which one as we would love to bring you some things to sell, do you need any books? x

I know I have missed loads of stuff out that I want to say and apologies for this, you are all such lovely people and your support is invaluable to so many.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a lovely day.

Morning all,

So sad about Robin Williams, RIP

Up early this morning, but sleeping much better now its cooler. Our heating turned itself on last night, the temperature must have got low enough. We turned it off and I used a blanket but it shows Autumn is on the way yippee:T

I'm still lied in bed with a cuppa but shall get out shortly and strip it. I've bought some new sheets I want to put on

We had a low fat lasagne last night which was delish. Instead of making the usual cheesy sauce I use a tin of LF mushroom Campbell's condensed soup with Lf Philadelphia and a splash of milk, it was yummy.

Weigh in this morning and then I will pop to the local town and charity shops. I could do with a couple of books from the library as well. I also want to post a letter.

Julia Penguin welcome back :hello:

lily plonk it wasn't gardening weather here either but my hubby was out there wrapped up with his hat on over his earphones, chipping into his golf net, strange man:p

Well better get a wriggle on, have a lovely day xx
