Just wanted to say a quick 'thank you' to you all...
Hello, I am a newbie and I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the advice given to me so far. I have just tried my first ever home made (baked bean) lasagne which was indeed very cheap and very easy to make and it tasted delicious! For breakfast my son and I had some of our damson, crab apple and blackberry jam that…

In what area of your life have you managed the biggest money savings?
I am just curious. For me, I have made the biggest savings in the area of gas and electricity usage. I have halved my monthly spends on them :) My next aim is to spend less on food.

Plum jam - very sweet
I have just made jam for the first time, and followed a recipe which stipulates the usual 1kg of fruit to 1kg of sugar. I left it overnight in the fridge and it has a nice set, the fruit evenly distributed (I like chunky jam) and although it has a lovely flavour from the homegrown Victoria plums, it is very sweet. Can…

Kenwood Chef Ice Cream Attachment
The attachment for my Kenwood Chef arrived Friday and has been in the Freezer ever since. I went to make some ice cream this morning but discovered that there was a 'swishing' sound inside the freezer bowl. I'm assuming the noise is coming from whatever sort of gel Kenwood use; but I'm wondering whether or not there should…

Eggless...
My 9 month old baby has developed an egg allergy in the last month or so so I am having to be very careful about what I can give him to make sure there is no egg in it (or any egg derivitives like powdered egg etc). I used to make cakes quite a lot before I was pregnant and things like homemadfe fish-cakes/chicken…

Price of Salmon
I am working out what to buy with my £5 off £10 Morrisons spend. Last time they had an offer on the fish counter for Salmon at £9.99 per Kg so I bought £10 worth, now it has gone up to £12.99. What I am trying to work out is periodically the various supermarkets will have offers on sides of Salmon, what sort of price do…

Using T***co Value vinegar for chutney?
I'm just making some chutney and the recipe calls for malt vinegar. DH went to shops for me and brought back Tesco value vinegar that doesn't say 'malt vinegar' on it. The ingedients says spirit vinegar with barley malt extract.....I just wondered if this is the same thing? Has anyone else out there used the value vinegar…

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice. I've already searched on here and tried most of the tips to no avail. I have a beko washing machine, just over 1 year old. My problem is, it doesn't matter what setting I use, what combination of detergents/vinegar/hot wash with bleach... Every couple if washes my laundry comes out…

Does anyone here eat Paleo?
Hi I was wondering if any OSers ate REALLY old style, ie paleolithic style food? Meat, fish, eggs, nuts and fruit. No (or very little) processed food, grains etc... My DDs and I are taking OS to it's limits with a Paleo way of eating for a lot of our meals and feeling the benefits already; less bloating, more energy etc.…

Cheese scone dough
I want to make some cheese scones. I've seen a Be-Ro recipe and it makes 8 scones. I live alone so I'd like to have two scones, one to eat on bake day and one for the next day, and freeze the rest. So my question, for the best quality, would it be best to bake them all and freeze the remaining six OR is it better to just…

DPs have very healthy appetites and DN is constantly hungry, as are the kids. My dilemma is how I keep food bills to a reasonable level and…
