Hi
I was wondering if any OSers ate REALLY old style, ie paleolithic style food? Meat, fish, eggs, nuts and fruit. No (or very little) processed food, grains etc...
My DDs and I are taking OS to it's limits with a Paleo way of eating for a lot of our meals and feeling the benefits already; less bloating, more energy etc. We do have dairy but much less than previously.
Does anyone else eat this way?
Fru :j

I have been eating this way myself (not oh or son) as I have been on a major life changing diet for past few months. I have lost a LOT of weight ,I have stopped dairy almost completlty too no butter, cream, milk , I make my coffee black etc.... at first I craved the usual sugary processed stuff in sm now I can walk past it without a glance. the only thing I do eat is porridge made with water is that a grain I don't know but other cereals etc no no no. I know when I get to my ideal weight about the year 2087 I shall prob go back to eating my more normal food until I lose the weight its a very plain not very exciting menu more food is fuel than taste.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z #7 member N.I splinter-group co-ordinater

Tried it for a couple of weeks once out of curiosity, but no. I went straight back to trying to eat a good mix of mostly minimally processed things.
I don't see the sense in not eating beans and pulses. I find the 'reasons' given all extremely unconvincing, to put it mildly. For a start, paleolithic man did eat them and copying cavemen is exactly what the whole premise was supposed to be.
I also don't see the sense in not eating dairy (other than for ethical reasons) unless you're lactose intolerant. Northern Europeans quite clearly *have* evolved to continue eating milk products beyond early childhood, on the whole, or we wouldn't have the specific gene mutations that allow us to digest it.
(And yes, porridge is a grain and so not allowed on the paleo diet. Daft, imo. Nothing wrong with oats at all!)Saving for deposit: Finished! :j

I have started eating Paleo back in April in an attempt to get my fibromyalgia under control. OH joined me - partly to make things easier for me with preparing the meals, partly hoping to lose weight.
It workedI would normally have a couple of "off plan" meals every week - meaning you do not have to feel deprived of all your favourite foods - with the added bonus that, eating certain foods only once a week helped me identify very quickly what made me ill and what didn't.
In weight loss terms, both OH and I have consistently lost a pound a week on average - and this is with no portion control, calorie counting, weighing the ingredients or any of the stuff that would end up making me want to slit my own throat.
As for foods that turned out to be poison to me - wheat, yeast, most dairy and refined sugar. Rice, pulses and potatoes are OK though, in moderation - so nowadays I am more of a "Paleo Plus" eater - Paleo plus some elements of "nourishing traditions" way of eating (sprouting and lacto fermenting mainly).
One thing about eating this way though - it is a lot more expensive than the super-frugal carb and pulse heavy way we used to eat. Sure, health is priceless.... But as someone who had to give up work due to ill health, I know how fortunate I am that we can still afford to eat this way, which is the healthiest possible for us - many who would benefit greatly from this way of eating just can not afford to.0 -

I'm progressing from low carb to Paleo. I've list over 50 lbs in the last 6 months eating this way. It is more expensive as grass fed meat and organic poultry doesn't come cheap! However when I look how much I used to spend on processed foods, ready meals, junk food, sweets, take outs etc. I am actually better off! When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0

Iv just started doing Paleo myself! Only one week in, but feeling so much better, less bloated, and not hungry all the time! Hoping to lose a few kilos, and stop having allergic reactions from food with nasty additives!0

I eat Paleo too but I do not go as far as organic and grass fed as I could not afford to. I guess it is about making it suit your lifestyle and purse.Mortgage start September 2015 £90000 MFiT #060

I've been doing it for a while as a diabetic and in four weeks I reduced my blood pressure to such an extent different Dr's came in the nurse's room to ask me how I did it. (Paelo and a couple of walks a week).
I reduced my reliance on insulin injections. I am down two waist sizes and have lost a stone and a half.
I've never eaten so well and never get hungry, the amount of vegetables I put away at meal times, my friends can't believe I am losing weight whilst eating so much.
I got the inspiration from a lady at work who started doing after going to Reebok Crossfit and in a year she is seriously fit with a six pack (3 kids).
A typical dinner for me looks like this-0 -
I just started Paleo myself -partly due because of food intolerances and partly because I have piled on weight in the past 2 years (probably because I am eating all the wrong foods!). Anyway, I would like to share the experience and tips on how to do Paleo in a money-saving way. :A
I have very little dairy (sheep and goat's chesse sometimes) and I am lucky I have a butcher who sells game at decent prices...............................................................................

Not 100% paleo but eating more fruits, veg, nuts, chicken, fish and occasional red meat. Less dairy, less bread, less processed food, no white or brown sugar.
