Low-carb freezable or batch lunches for work
I'm looking to lose weight and I think low-carb lunches would help me. I've been taking frozen sandwiches to work to save money but get hungry by mid-afternoon and want something less carby and more filling. I've also been taking in frozen scones/cakes to stop myself being tempted by the chocolate machine. I normally make…

Slow Cooker Lid
I smashed the lid for my Morphy Richards Sear and Stew SC a couple of months ago - the lid is unavailable currently on the website (but selling for a v. reasonable fiver) and amazon listings don't actually describe which models the lids are suitable for - plus they are double/triple the price. Any ideas? I'm really missing…

How to make these M&S Canapes ourselves?
Hiya OS-ers, Wasn't sure whether to put this here or on the wedding board but thought it was more an OS thing :) After my wedding ceremony we are bringing all the guests back inside the church for a glass of pimms and something to nibble before the proper meal - cheaper than having it at the reception venue and it means…

Can opener help. (no, I haven't gone mad!)
I am not even sure if this is the right part of the forum, but you guys are a helpful lot so I thought I would ask... I want to use some empty tin cans to store my daughter's felt tip pens in, but my can opener leaves a sharp edge inside the can. Does anyone know of a can opener that leaves the can 'safe', with no sharp…

Struggling for inspiration (cupboard ingredients list included in post)
Hello everyone, this is my first thread on the OS board :) I've got 3 weeks left of my final year at uni. I'm a bit of a food hoarder (I take after my mum!) so I'm left with a freezer/cupboard full of stuff to eat and not much time to eat it! Can anybody help me think of a meal plan for this lot? There's only me I need to…

Whole roast chicken in combi microwave
I've only ever cooked chicken fillets in my combi microwave, but tonight I need to cook a whole (small-ish) chicken. Any tips for the best method/timing? My manual for the combi microwave doesn't go into much detail. I have some spare roasting bags from some sachets of roasting spices (spices were disgusting, so I nabbed…

Chicken ideas please
I've taken a chicken leg/thigh out of the freezer, but I forgot that my oven doesn't work very well. Silly me! Also, stocks are pretty low in the food department as I couldn't face shopping during the Easter rush. I'd like to do something with the chicken in the slow cooker, but I can't think of a single thing to do with…

Old-style birthday party!
Hi, It's my birthday in a few weeks and we're going to have a Great Gatsby party on the bank holiday Sunday before (providing our Landlady is ok with it). People will be at my flat for 4 hours before we head out to a cocktail bar so it's not a really long affair but I want to do it as cheaply as possible. Roughly 20 people…

ceramic frying pans any good?
I am thinking of getting a ceramic pan to cut down on using oil when frying. Do they really work as per the adverts? Can you really fry an egg with no oil? (I am thinking the answer is no lol). And most importantly those that have brought one do you actually use it? They are not cheap but I don't mind spending the money if…
