This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

  • Good morning everyone :)

Didn't sleep very well last night due to a police helicopter who seemed to stay over our house for hours in the middle of the night.

In usual dash but will try and pop back and catch up on everyone's news later.

Hi and welcome to Starrystarrynight :hello:

Lovely to hear from Molly and JackieO. Hope you are both still resting up and taking it easy x

Hester - am so sorry about your MIL x

Well wishes for all other sick people and pets and hugs for those that need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    I don't very often see 2 6 o'clocks in a day. :o

Up this morning as we have to have the caravan to the dealers by 8 a.m. I've showered and DH is in there now. Once we have dropped the van off, we will head to Mablethorpe for the day. Skye will get a good run on the beach or two, and we know a very reasonable cafe which we can take her in, so won't starve. Sometimes hard hanging around until 3-4 p.m.

Home afterwards, giving us about 10 days for the turn around for the next trip to the sun.:D. Started a lovely crocheted baby pinafore dress. DDIL's sister had a baby girl on the 21st, Skye's birthday, as was the Queens, and my DlateMIL. So she has every chance of being a lovely lady. I would like to have it finished to take down as I think we are taking DS & DIL over to get M&D's on our way to the a Tunnel, so hopefully will get to see her.

Enough waffle, not much OS today, due to curcumstances, but will have yogurt porridge in a mo, and catchwhatwecan for tea, I,e. Whatever is left in the fridge.

Take care everyone and Molly & J-0 take it easy as you recuperate, have a ((Hug)) or some Spoons those who would like them. DG

    Thanks TTFM.
Nice to see you Molly & JackieO, LW, I hope you aren't missing your princess's too much.
Off to work in a sec, I need to buy some fruit today I only have one orange left & nothing else.
Fish fed, DW chugging away, hubby has a cuppa in bed, he's on holiday this week so will pop over to see his Mum.
Meatloaf for tea tonight, it's already cooked & I just need to do the veg to go with it.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Happy St George's Day!

    Welcome Starrystarrynight.
Molly & Jackie - Recovery vibes to you both, sounds like you are doing ok.
HH - So sorry to hear about your MIL. Hope work isn't too manic.

Back to work yesterday, could have laid down about 2pm and had a snooze. Monday evening was spent with our friends from across the road, they ended up here for a roast dinner and a couple of glasses of wine. Far too late for a school night!

They helped us to move the shed, as did the next door neighbours, still can't get over the fact that we have really nice neighbours after the ones at the last house.

DW chugging away, it was full last night but I am not putting it on at night anymore as I saw a programme showing how quickly they can overheat and go on fire. Washing up to date till DS2 and DD surface, they can sort that out. Unfortunately it's raining so it will have to go on the airers.

Cleaned the bathrooms and kitchen floor when I got home yesterday and hoovered round so it looks a little better.

Pasta and meatballs for tea. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Hester – hugs to you, your hubby, MIL and family x

JackieO – good to hear from you, keep taking it steady and recovering at a steady pace x

Hugs to those that want/need them.

Now light, bright and sunny, not cold either. Rain forecast for later though. Washing on the line.

DH up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg – all eaten and enjoyed, menfolk cleared up chocolate cake, or some of the many easter eggs for dessert. Remembered to get the gammon steaks out to defrost – so tonight we’ll be having gammon steaks, egg, new potatoes, onion sauce, and veg. The LO roast will be tomorrow nights’ dinner. Dinner was a bit late as hairdresser came so we’re all tidy again now.
Work was busy but not horrendous but a lot of the schools didn’t go back yesterday – they go back today so hoping we’ll have a busy morning as I’m only working until lunchtime then I’m on days’ off until Monday. I have a few admin jobs to do at home when I get back. My car insurance renewal has arrived, it’s gone up quite a bit so will speak to them to see if I can get a better price, will see what they can come up with.

Have several apples in the bowl that look like they’re getting past their best, will make them into a crumble I think. Also have some pastry in the fridge, will make it into a bakewell tart – as it’s DH’s favourite – will possibly do the crumble for tomorrow nights’ dinner and the bakewell Friday if I get time.

Trying still to keep busy – it’s helping with keeping the CBA mood under control.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good Morning Everyone :hello:
Been a stranger for a week :o Between work being busy, lots to do at home and then with the bank holiday weekend my OH had two full days out of the garage so we spent lots of quality time together doing different things and visiting family!! My normal work is slowing off again and the colleague that has been on holiday is back next week.
I did read a little the end of last week but will go back and catch up on what I have missed!!!
Weather a little overcast here today, although warmer than yesterday. The bank hol was nice and warm with us, bit windy but can't complain and as I say, spent lots of time with OH, saw family and just enjoyed not rushing around :D
NMLC - must be that time, my car insurance rewenal has arrived too, luckily it has gone down for me! Hope you get a lower price from them!!!
I hope Molly & JackieO are both doing OK and recovering well.
We have booked a holiday last week, going to Paris for 4 nights/5 days leaving on 4th May so very excitied and getting orgainsed for that now. List's everywhere for what we need to take. Will be picking the EURO's up tomorrow :T very excitied!! OH never been to Paris...or France for that matter..and It's a different holiday to what we would normally have so looking forward to sightseeing :D
I'm sure there is plenty else I could babble about but I won't bore you any further today ;):rotfl:
Off to catch up on the past week and will pop back to catch up on here later.

    Have a lovely day everyone.

    Morning all,

Hester ive just caught up with the news about your MIL. Such devastating news for the family. So sorry for you all.

Apologies from me for being a right grump the last few months. Finally ive kicked the black dog into touch. Yesterday I felt more like my old self than ive been for months. My sense of humour has come back and I feel more able to tackle what life (and family) throws at me.

Other news. Well my Grandsons Mother (my sons ex) has finally decided that she wants us in our Grandsons life. For years she used him as a weapon against us for my sons shortcomings. Well that's not strictly true she said we could visit but there was so much bad feeling and so many things we got chucked at us we felt it best to leave things alone.

We've met, things seem to be ironed over but ive got my reservations. Ive got a lot of reservations. Ive told her they are both welcome here at any time and she has told us the same but ive got a feeling that wont be enough. We'll just have to see. My son still wants nothing to do with either of them. Not so much the boy but he knows his son and his Mother comes as a package and him and the ex never got on before and still don't get on now.

Usual daily chores to be done today. Ive rearranged the furniture in the living room slightly to make up for the lack of space. I'm still annoyed but getting used to it. Hubby thinks its great though his motto is 'bigger is better' (unless it comes to his choice in women :-@).

    Onwards and forwards,
    have a great day all.

    Afternoon all,

    Firstly:
    Starry - Welcome :)
JackieO - Glad to hear you had a lovely weekend. Keep on mending :)
Hester - Dreadful news about your MIL

I have to say that I tried to watch the first episode of Jamaica Inn last night intending to watch the second. I only got about ten mins in and couldn't bear it. I can't remember who said about the mumbling, but totally agree it was terrible!

Well DS2 has actually got round to filling in his college application, he found the personal statement bit very difficult. I had offered some suggestions. For any of you who have had to do one or had a child do one, please tell me it wasn't just us who found it hard?

Been to work and done the banking this morning/lunchtime and am just waiting for a parcel to be delivered. I really need to crack on with the ironing too....
