Soft brandy snaps - how to crisp up?
Not sure if this counts as money saving, except that I bought 3 boxes at 50p each from B&M and don't want to throw them away! They're just not the same all soft, does anyone know if I can just put them in the oven to crisp them up again?

Sewing machine recommendations for a beginner....and cheap!
Hello!! I'm after a sewing machine for a complete novice!! I've got lots of clothes that I'd like to either fix or adjust and I'd like to make some fleece cage liners for my pet. There are lots of different machines out there but I don't have a clue which one to go for. Cost is clearly a consideration and I really like…

Are my olives OK to eat?
I bought a jar of olives in brine 10 days ago and ate some. The rest are in the jar in the fridge. The brine has gone cloudy - is this normal or should I throw them away?

I want to make some lasagne and shepherds pies to freeze but I'm a bit confused! I was going to cook up a big batch of bolognese sauce and for the shep pie top with mash, and the lasagne layer it between dried pasta sheets and pour whit sauce over the top. But do I then freeze it, or do I bake them like I would if we were…

I've had some experience with chickens so have an understanding of what's involved but I want to know if it's really worth it, I am funny about…

Hello all mse'ers Im hoping you can give me some ideas, I have a lovely brown leather pair of boots made by a certain leg toning flip flop making company. Valentines Day - The OS way
Sooooo we don't really celebrate Valentines Day, but with having to save our pennies for one thing or another, I'm thinking it would be quite nice (and fun) to put together a 3 course meal for the OH and I. What would you make? We're quite fussy, meat wise only eat Chicken or mince... and not huge fans of mushrooms or…

can you make your own dehumidifier refills?
Hi I have the need to use those dehumidifier things that catch moisture in a tub, with a bag of stuff above to absorb the water. I have 3 classic cars which get layed up over winter, have a caravan and also could do with some of these on some windowsills in the house. I was wondering can you make the refills for these with…

Can you help the Mash Monster Mummy?
Morning guys! I need some inspiration! I have acquired the nickname of Mash Monster Mummy as apparently I serve mash a lot. (it's half joking as I don't serve it THAT much!!) However, I have some left over mash in the fridge (I cook double the amount to try to save fuel) and some left over roast chicken. Enough of both to…

Anyone watching Britain's best bakery? & a girl called jack
Anyone watching Britain's best bakery? I really enjoy it, if I'm being picky I would like to see them each make a bread, a pastry & a cake (s) in each of the first 3 rounds, to go through. I think it's really hard to compare their sig bakes. It would make more sense if they flocked birds of a feather together & compared…

Frugal desserts that look and taste like a million dollars?
I am going to a family 21st birthday party at the weekend and have been tasked with making a dessert. My normal "piece de resistance" is pavlova with raspberries and cream but I would like to do something different. Times are tight so I need to be careful with the pennies. On the other hand I don't want to appear mean. Do…

Ideas for tinned mackerel that are whole fish not fillets
Bought a massive tin of tinned mackerel in Aldi. Assumed it would be mackerel fillets. Nope. Head and tails chopped off but otherwise whole fish (very small, poor babies) full of bones. I cook fresh mackerel. I love tinned mackerel fillets. I'm put off by these things - they are still that soggy/fall apart tinned texture…
