can you make your own dehumidifier refills?

Hi
I have the need to use those dehumidifier things that catch moisture in a tub, with a bag of stuff above to absorb the water.
I have 3 classic cars which get layed up over winter, have a caravan and also could do with some of these on some windowsills in the house.
I was wondering can you make the refills for these with commonly available ingredients?
thanks!
Derek

You can buy big bags of silica gel on ebay, heres a really simple tutorial for a bag. http://rumkin.com/reference/desiccant/
I imagine you can also cut small holes in the top of a takeaway container and fill with silica.0 -

I used to place tubs of salt or cat litter in our caravan over the winter.
The cat litter not only absorbs any liquid in the air it also helps absorb any smells.0
