1200w halogen heater vs combi boiler heating
Hi, I work from home and my desk is in the lounge. It's a 3 bed semi, with recent cavity/loft insulation, double glazing and a fairly modern combi boiler. On days like today the heating is on a lot and it seems a waste of money to be heating the entire house for just me. I close all the doors to the other rooms and turn…

Cheap stain removers?
I've used Vanish Oxy Gold ( I received a free box with Bzz agent) but it hasn't worked for me so far :( Does anyone know of any cheap stain removers which actually work!

cooking 'tips' you learned and want to pass on
I was thinking about this yesterday while cooking the roast dinner with two granddaughters 'help'. while putting the carrots on, C said to me that her mums carrots weren't as nice as mine. or the peas. so I let her into my secret. taught to me by my nan - add a bit of sugar to them along with the salt. While making the…

Potatoes with eyes
I've got a bag of potatoes that simply weren't used up in time, they're not soft but they are sprouting eyes. I have another fresh bag. I was going to throw the old bag away but I thought I'd find out if anyone had any ideas of what I could do with them? Xxx

O/S Effort so much harder in the rain
Just looking for sympathy really lol! NSD and it is freezing and wet here on the west coast of Scotland. Store cupboard concoction bubbling in the slow cooker for lunch but now I am off in the wet and cold to collect wood for the fire tonight. Feel like stamping my feet and shouting "Don't wanna, wanna be rich enough to…

Re-Vitalising an Old Formica Kitchen Work Surface
Hi I've got a formica laminate kitchen worktop, its covered in fine scratches (no real gouges), and looks a bit past it. I don't think it's worth replacing, as my house has already lost value, and I don't think I a shiny new work surface will add any value to the house. I've been looking for ways to improve the appearance…

Stale Scones
Have just found 3 unopened packs of scones, all at least a couple of weeks out of date. They look fine (no mould, etc). Before I chuck them in the bin has anyone got any ideas what I could make with them - maybe some type of dessert?? Thanks in advance :D .

do 'rag men' take feathered duvets?
The charity said only if they are unstained and i can't be ars=d going through 6-10 bags checking for stains! They are mostly feathered duck or geese down quilts, if they take them how much should i expect to get per bag? If not i'll try an animal shelter but it would be nice to make something from them. :)

Printable storage label templates?
I've been trying to find some printable label templates but there seem to be so many dodgy sites around that I'm struggling to find some that don't either crash my computer or give my anti virus software palpitations! Any suggestions for one's that you have tried would be great, I'm looking for sticky label templates and…

Help, Breadmaking by hand, using fresh yeast, too dense/heavy. Ideas please.
Hi, I'm really hoping some of you can help us in our quest for the perfect loaf. My OH has taken to making our bread after becoming so fed up with the declining quality of shop bought bread. It works out cheaper and so far he has reached the point of satisfaction with white bread but is now having issues with the…

anybody got a JML Go Chef?
If so what do you think of it? Is it any good? It looks exactly like the new style Murphy Richards Intellichef plus a timer, which makes it much much better for me, but I'd like to hear feedback from someone who's got one. :) http://www.jmldirect.com/uk/cooking+baking/gochef/invt/g0bgs20100000001

Slow cooker advice
I am thinking about picking up a slow cooker as I hear they are better for power consumption and would be handy (and tasty!) to leave dinner cooking while I'm in work. I work long hours though so I am wondering can I leave it cooking for 10 hours or longer or can anyone recommend one with a good timer? Thanks!

Hi We're having a 70's style buffet at work and can't think what to make, anyone got some good idea's? It has to be HM as I don't buy supermarket ready made stuff, and I always make puds/cakes so would like to make something savoury if possible. Thanks!
