OS Daily Thread for Friday 31st January

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.
Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all
I've been awake since 3:45, so decided to get up & browse online. Even the fish aren't awake yet.
Cold & damp here, same as it has been for a while, hubby is having to make do with indoor gardening most days as the ground is too wet to do anything with.
Busy weekend ahead, DGD tonight, DGS tomorrow & DD's dog on Sunday and I really need to do some housework as well.
I've just seen BIL on facebook, he's back from Vegas, is off to Thailand in March & then the States in July, all this with no job & living on benefits!
Hubby & I would settle for a wet weekend in Weston, but can't afford it, hey ho, bitterness won't help.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Good morning everyone :)

TGIF and am glad to see the back of January too.

Made a post last night about bead incident but know most people don't read/post late so will copy it here:

Still there as A&E consultant says ear drum and canal is swollen and infected so he wants to use antibiotic drops to get that down before they start the procedure.

GDD is 10 so she should be old enough to know better but she swears she did not do it. Only thing we can think of is that she says she was making cards/pictures with beads, sequins and glue at youth club. She may have put her finger in her ear, the way kids do, and possibly had a bead attached to her at the time, her finger came out and the bead stayed behind. Then it would have irritated her, she would have kept messing with her ear and pushed it further in.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes :)

Hester - I would feel exactly the same. We have a neighbour who claims disability benefits and has a disabled parking space yet spends half his time rebuilding his house single handed, does boot sales every Sunday in the Spring/Summer and spends at least 12 weeks a year on holiday. It makes me so mad when I see people here who are struggling to get what they deserve and need for themselves or their families

LW - I forgot to say how lovely Lizzie dog is. When does your next visitor arrive?

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those that need/want them. Keep well, warm and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning :hello:

E has been in slow labour (eh? I'm sure that didn't exist when I was having my kids! lol) for a week and a half. If he hasn't been born by wednesday, she's going to be induced.

My wreath is a messy jumble but I'm going to hang it up anyway :D I made up a pattern for a rectangle, I've googled and googled and can't find the same thing anywhere, rather chuffed that I've made something original :D

The boiler is losing pressure again, there must be a leak somewhere in the system. I've been round the house checking the visible pipes but they're all OK. Which means it's under the floorboards somewhere....... not looking forward to sorting that out. I was hoping I'd done something silly like bash a pipe with the hoover or something, that's easy to find and fix. Gggrrrr.

I made a cake for the first time in ages, an iced sponge, my favourite :D Took one bite and the icing attacked my teeth, I nearly shot through the ceiling  Really fed up with this  I have the dentist this morning at 8.40, will see what he suggests.

Good Morning all and the end of January at long last.Dreadful to wish your days away, but this month has been sooo looong :):):)
History club this afternoon which I always enjoy first though the school run which I don't mind as Mikey (DGS) is quite an entertaining little chap.He regales me with all of his doings at school and what's gong on there. There is something very innocent about a 9 year old telling you about his friends and teachers .Apparrently 'Miss' is very nice sometimes but does have days when she can be grumpy and a bit of a grouch.(PMT perhaps) and 'Sir' smells of cigarettes which Mikey thinks 'pongs'.
No shopping for me today as I have more than enough for the weekend in store.I dug a steak out of the freezer and I'll have that for dinner tonight I think.
Hope everyone has a good day, weather doesn't look brilliant at the moment ,but at least its not too cold
    Cheers chums

P.S.Only 28 weeks today until our holidays :):):)hopefully we shall see some sun by then

    Morning all,

Cold here today and I think we are due more storms later on, just what we need more rain !

Off to work for me today and I have tomorrow to do as well, so not the end of the week for me. Dinner tonight will be something with mince either spag bol or chilli will see what we fancy later.

Will do a wash tonight and get on the airer. OH and dd can be in charge of cleaning tomorrow. Got dd's boyf coming tomorrow to stay, who is extremely fussy with food, I am hoping that getting them two to make the pizzas will encourage him to eat it !

Snoozer hope you are ok xxxx

    Have good days all xx

Quick one from me as I need to go and collect a parcel before work.
    HH - That's infuriating.
TTFTM - Why do they do these things?

Hugs to those in need, stay warm and dry. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Getting light, still very damp underfoot although not raining at the moment, doesn’t look like we’ve had a frost either.

DH and DS1 up and gone to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was roast chicken pieces, new potatoes, veg and LO veg and gravy. Tonight will be something and chips – easy dinner as it’s Friday night! Was reasonably productive yesterday got the washing, drying and ironing done, and the basket was empty – but this morning seems to be half full again! I do need to pack and possibly do some baking if I get time.

I will shortly be heading to the bank, building society, and food shopping, although I have an online shop booked for later, there’s just 1 or 2 things I need to get from elsewhere.

The computer guys seem to have done a good job with the pc, am now using it, and spent a while last night getting to know the new systems. A lot of it is very different so I’m on a bit of a learning curve!

Have a great Friday everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Good Morning All

Hester - I know what you mean a family I know have a static caravan which costs around £3.5 a year and still go on overseas holidays and live on benefits - drives me mad.

Work went well yesterday the top manager asked me to stay and do only 1 day at the weekend so that is great however i know my line manager is going to go mad as he wants me to leave so his partner can take the job - Monday will be interesting.

DS is still suffering with anxiety, has has seen a counsellor twice but its going to be a long process, the school are fully aware but are still not sending work home for him - very strange - its quite stressful here at the moment but oh well will just have to get on with things.

Today will spend a little time in the office then potter around the house - think will be pork chops for dinner just not sure what with yet.

Have a great day all - its Friday :jx

Morning all, hope you are all ok,

Just had a quick swish & swipe in the kitchen as there were still bits from last night that needed putting away.DS2,DiL2b,DGD & DGS came for tea,we had fish and SW chips as DiL2b is trying to lose the baby weight.I've started using the big dining table instead of the kitchen when they come, its easier when we're all here and with DGDs high chair.Discovered DGD (2 1/4 )loves it and keeps saying 'we're like a big family' :rotfl:When we're all sat down she leans forward and says 'is everybody alright ?' like the hostess with the mostest :D Gotta love toddlers. She's coming to stay over tonight.

Sausage & mash for tea with onion gravy so thats simple enough. I sorted my freezers and wrote it down,I'm ok at that bit-its keeping it updated,I always forget :oMy neighbour took me toAldi yesterday.I got next years Xmascards 30 in a box 9p :D so got 2,and a box of the special choccy Belgian biccies for 69p,and a tin of shortbread with a pound off. They hadnt updated the till prices though,so told them and got some money back,so spent £30,and am hoping thats it for this week, the rest will be out of the freezer.

TTFTM-hope they get DGD ear sorted soon -sounds painful. When I worked at school in KS1 it happened quite a few times over the years, mainly up noses though.I took one lad to casualty,we waited for ages then all of a sudden he sneezed and the bead shot out :rotfl:

Hope you all have good days x
