Substitutions for creme de menthe and creme de cacao?
I want to make Grasshopper pie at some point, as i have stumbled across the recipe by accident (never heard of it before today); but wondered if there are any experienced cooks out there that would be able to recommend something else i could use in place of these two ingredients. The first one that springs to mind is mint…

How much is too much cleaning and ironing? Friend may have a problem
Please move to different thread if required My friend is retired and she cleans her 3 bed semi twice a week. She spends all day from 8-9am to about 2pm. Then she irons everything excluding undies. She washes the towels after one use - like a hotel. I do wonder what she washes as both her and DH wear the same 3 sets of…

Sausage making!
I'm racking my brains trying to think of Christmas presents for my lovely hubby, and it's occurred to me that as a huge fan of sausages he might like to try making his own. I have a Kenwood Chef so could buy the mincer attachment for that. What I'm wondering is whether anyone makes their own bangers and if so, do you find…

Using a Tefal 4-in-1 cooker
I am very disappointed with my Tefal. It cooks rice very nicely, but it's too quick to be a slow cooker. There isn't a recipe book either (ggogle Tefal slow cooker recipes and you'll see what I mean). What I'm looking for is a failsafe rice pudding recipe - the sort you can do overnight or at least 4-6 hours during the…

Does anybody have an oil fired Stanley range?
We've just moved house and there's a Stanley range in it, but I'm really struggling. I tried cooking pasta on it the first night using water boiled in a kettle, and it just sat on the stove top not bubbling at all. Eventually the pasta just warmed into a sort of softness. Today I wanted to par-boil potatoes for roasting,…

Staying warm
Hi All, As we get ready for another cold winter & rocketing heating bills. I was thinking about buying a Flavel gas fire (there's even one called the Misermatic). I know they look hideous & my wife cant stand them but surely it must cheaper than using the the feeble convector electric fire we have that just seems to dry…

Is it safe to eat frozen food past one month?
I bought an M&S count on us chilled chilli con carne, use by 22/08/13, didn't eat it so whacked it in the freezer. It says on the pack to freeze before use by date then use within one month. I knew it was around a month since I'd frozen it so got it out today and realised it's been over a month, and should have been used…
