Roasted Parsnip seasoning
Ok I used to buy a packet of roasted parsnip seasoning from Sainsbury's but have been told they no longer stock it. So would like to make my own mix so that I have a supply. I'm guessing the mix was salt, black pepper, onion powder/granules and dried thyme. Possibly more ingredients. But don't know the amounts. So I was…

quick!!! need help
In laws have announced that they are coming for tea at 5.30. I am not prepared! I've got chicken drumsticks (cooked day before yesterday) in fridge but need a side dish to go with that won't take more than an hour. I have a huge bag of potatoes and basically every ingredient I could ever need as well. I'm known for being…

bread maker (Sorry)
Hi Sorry for yet another post about breadmakers I have searched through and read a lot of previous ones but haven't found exactly what I am looking for yet!! I have a panny SD255 and have made a lot of bread in it and while its very nice it is quite 'dense'. A slice of my bread can be 70 to 80grams while I can get 2 slices…

Great British Budget Menu-BBC
I just got the BBC food newsletter and saw that there's a one-off show coming up. The blurb on the show can be found here. I don't normally watch the Great British Menu shows, but this one looks like it could be interesting. The Beeb are also going to be publishing budget recipes. It's on BBC1 8pm on July 11th. If you…

Glut of cherry tomatoes - secondary school
Morning all, I'm hoping you ladies (and gents) can give me some ideas. We've been given around 10kg of cherry tomatoes to use in school. I'm going to make some quiches for our breakfast club tomorrow and then have a yr 7 class for a 1 hour lesson: does anyone have any ideas for a recipe we could make. I have most basics…

Bacon hotpot disaster
Hi, ok - so I'm not a good cook. Found the recipe on here and several variations people had recommended for the above. The one I tried tonight was using condensed soup instead of cheese sauce. The instructions didn't say whether to add water to the soup or just use it neat - I used it neat and the hotpot was really dry and…

How can I get the smell of windowlene off towels?
Hi I have help with cleaning tasks and bought a cloth to clean my windows. I told my cleaner to use the cloth with windowlene and as the cloth was washable i put it in on a 60 degree wash with some towels - bit of a mistake! Drying herbs
I want to dry herbs from my garden so I can use them later to make teas. Lots of books say hang up bunches to dry but I don't want them getting cobwebs! Does anyone here dry their garden herbs, if so how do you do it?

Cleaning up bubble solution
A huge amount of bubble solution has been spilled on one of my car seats and left a stain. :( I haven't tried to wash it out - when it was fresh just touching the seat made it foam up. Can anyone suggest how best to tackle this? Thanks.

home made oven chips
Being fed up with tasteless oven chips I decided to make my own. They are ok and better than shop bought ones. However I still feel they could be improved. I've tried using different oil latest being groundnut. Maybe it is the potatoe though the flavour doesn't seem to much different. Id like to know others recipe for…

Help me reduce our food bill
Hi, we are a family of 3, two adults and one seven year old. I currently spend £100 a week on food, which I think is too much. It would be of huge benefit to us if we could get it down to £350 a month. This needs to cover all our evening meals, two packed lunches and one home lunch for me, breakfast cereal for them and an…

Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe?
Hi everyone :) I went out the other day to an Indian/Italian/Chinese buffet and had some really lovely sweet and sour chicken. I wonder if it would be possible to recreate this at home? I'm not a seasoned cook but I can be adventurous! Does anyone have a foolproof, tried and tested recipe, please? The version I had had…

Carpet cleaning?
I have a large beige coloured rug in the living room that looks like it's in need of a good clean. I was thinking of buying one of those carpet cleaners that you spray on and hoover out, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas that might clean it up, rather than me having to go spend money!

Fluff disaster!
Just unloaded the washing machine, and a blanket I put in seems to have disintegrated. Everything else that was in the load is now covered in white fluff. How do I get my clothes clean again? It is very fine and everything is totally covered so I don't think sellotape will work. My black jeans are now grey :(

Cutting down the cost of the commute
I've been trying to motivate myself to cycle the 5.2 mile round journey to work and back. Presently I catch the bus in, and then normally walk back, meaning on the cheapest week I spend over £10. Has anyone managed to get the motivation to get themselves up and out early to save busing? Any tips for motivation/ moneysaving…

Hi, Hopefully this is the right board to post this on. I have a huge amount of strawberries and raspberries about to ripen in my garden and I would like to make some jam.
