In laws have announced that they are coming for tea at 5.30. I am not prepared!

I've got chicken drumsticks (cooked day before yesterday) in fridge but need a side dish to go with that won't take more than an hour.

I have a huge bag of potatoes and basically every ingredient I could ever need as well.

I'm known for being the cook of the family but I've run out of inspiration! Need to whip up a cake too

    Potato wedges
Scrub, cut, toss in oil and bake
    Jacket potatoes
    Scrub cook
Both should be quick so you have time for cake.
You could microwave the potatoes a bit before oven for speed
Trying to make the money last the month.

If new potatoes then make potato salad to go with your chicken drumsticks.

Roast veg = roast potatoes, peppers, onion and carrots. Frozen pea's in a pan on hob.
While the oven is on pop in a victoria sandwich cake.

Have fun and enjoy your company.

Or, try par boiling the potatoes (10 minutes for new potatoes, or otherwise cut into new potato size!) and then put them on a baking tray, crush lightly with a fork and drizzle with olive oil, any herbs and spices you fancy (rosemary or paprika is nice) salt, and pepper. Bake in a hot oven for about 20 minutes. They're lush with chicken. Then, just make a nice salad and do a bit of fruit, or a pan of brownies for pudding.

    I've taken bits of everything!!

Cubed the potatoes, currently boiling for ten minutes. Thrown some oil, bbq seasoning that was open, paprika, garlic salt and herbs into a bowl. Chopped an onion stuck in bowl. Will drain potatoes coat in the dressing and then bake. What temperature do you think I should do them on? (elec fan oven)

I've got a ton of apples so thinking apple crumble if that doesn't take too long as I have a couple of bags of ready made crumble

I'd cook at 200, or 180 if a fan oven.

Dinner was a success, thank you for the inspiration!

We had chicken drumsticks that I had cooked previously from Lidl.
I cubed a LOT of potatoes, boiled for ten minutes roasted for 25. If you fancy trying it I made an on the spot dressing for roasting. One onion chopped, then plenty of olive oil, Maggi O Juicy BBQ seasoning, paprika, garlic, agave syrup and parsley. I know that sounds like an odd combination but it was delicious. The syrup added the right amount of sweetness. I love throwing things together. I made a huge dish of potatoes and the three (plus toddler) of us wolfed it down. Poor OH got fish fingers and waffles when he had his "lunch break" at 7.30.

Made crumble with blender and covered leftover apples. I tried using agave syrup instead of sugar over the apples but it left runny liquid at the bottom so I think I'll stick with sugar.

I'm going to make the potatoes again tomorrow as I have a friend over just need to decide what to have as a meat dish. I've got some pollack portions I fancy cooking. I'm not that versed in cooking fish though
    Money money money.

Glad everything turned out well for you.

When you cook apple crumble or pie again, toss the apples in cornflour and it makes the fruit much firmer without the runny liquid in the bottom.
