Hi everyone
I went out the other day to an Indian/Italian/Chinese buffet and had some really lovely sweet and sour chicken. I wonder if it would be possible to recreate this at home? I'm not a seasoned cook but I can be adventurous!
Does anyone have a foolproof, tried and tested recipe, please? The version I had had peppers and a delicious sauce.
I promise to share pictures when done!
Thanks in advance
Ps - I've never attempted Chinese food before so this will be interesting!

Slice chicken breasts into strips.
Marinate overnight in crushed garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, Lea and Perrins sauce, crushed spring onions.
Buy a jar of Uncle Ben's Sweet & Sour sauce (Original) - I find this sauce excellent.
When ready to cook, leaving juices in chicken marinade, pour cornflour all over and mix in till sticky. You won't need extra water to get the cornflour to stick to the chicken.
Put sauce in a pan and let it warm on a gentle heat, adding in some oyster sauce (about a teaspoon).
Heat oil and fry coated strips on medium heat stirring occasionally until brownish.
Drain and drop in your ready made sauce et voila!
Easy, simple, tasty and a winner.0 -
This is my favorite home made sweet and sour recipe, no question. I make it about once a month. It's not the same as a take away but its better than any shop bought sauce or ready meal IMO.
Sweet and sour chicken
· 450g chicken fillet, cut into chunks
· 1 red pepper, cubed
· 1 green pepper, cubed
· Carrott sliced
· 6 spring onions, sliced diagonally
· 425g can Pineapple Chunks in Juice
· 1 long, red chilies, sliced diagonally
For the sweet and sour sauce:
· 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
· 1 tbsp brown sugar
· 2 tbsp light soy sauce
· 2 tbsp white wine vinegar
· 2 tbsp dry sherry
· pineapple juice reserved from the can mixed with 1-2 tbsp cornflour
Method
1. Add some oil to a pan and fry the meat, then when just cooked add the vegetables and pineapple and chilies.
2. Mix the sauce ingredients together and pour over the chicken and veg. Add the pineapple/corn flour mixture. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly and the chicken is cooked throughOpinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0 -

I use the Hairy Bikers Sweet & Sour Chicken recipe from their weight loss series - http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/sweet_and_sour_chicken_52908 but use chopped mushrooms instead of water chestnuts.
Easy to make and always goes down well with everyone here.
