I think these people have too much spare time on their hands. They would do better to think about more significant things, such as walking instead of driving, smaller more fuel efficient cars, and so on.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

I am as frugal with water as I am with most of the utilities.I have a bucket in the bathroom that I fill with water when I have a shower as it takes a few minutes for the water to come down from the upstatirs tamk (my bathroom is on the groundfloor)This water is used for various things watering flowers, flushing loos,or even just mopping floors with.No point paying for something to have it flow down the drain (I am water metered)
I make sure my lights are switched off when not in use and I use my 100 minutes of phone time on my mobile instead of my landline, and only use that for incoming calls only.I am paying for my mobile anyhow so I'd just as well use them.I have a super speedy kettle that I can biol just enough water in for my tea and I only wash the dishes up once a day in the evening and use a bowl in the sink as well.I think a lot of people are becoming more careful with essential items now as they are costing more .Only problem is then the power companies complain and say useage has dropped so they will have to increase prices You just can't win0 -

Oh this bugs the heck out of me.
It really really annoys me when OH fills the kettle up full, just to make one cup of tea. I've mentioned more than once how daft it is to boil water you're not going to use and then leave it to just cool again.
He still does it. It's one of those *things* that you'd see on Mr & Mrs under the 'what annoys you most' heading.
I've taken to putting the right amount of water in the kettle whenever I pass it now in the hope he'll just switch it on instead of adding more.
I'm not really a grump. :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0 -
Will be pointing this out to my kids pronto! (They seem to think a kettle will only boil if it is full
.)

Not in this house, whenever I boil a kettle, what is left goes into an insulated flask for the next couple of cups of coffee.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I have one of these which just boils a cup at a time.

Although I paid about £45 for mine, which I know seems a lot compared with a kettle, but with the amount of tea and coffee we drink in this house I reckon I've saved almost the cost of it already.
I only use my kettle now when I need larger amounts of water.0 -
I'm quite good at only boiling what I will use as hubby doesn't like it when water is boiled more than once. On the odd occasion I boil too much I use it to poor down the sink to keep the drain cleanHave a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

Let's apply some basic science to these "findings".......
When you overfill a kettle, what happens to the excess heat in the remaining water? Does it just disappear? Do little green men come down and steal it?
NO, it's dissipates into the air around it (into your kitchen).
Now in the UK, we heat our homes for almost 9 months of the year, so for nine months in the year, overfilling your kettle does nothing more than supplement your homes central heating (as long as you have a thermostat).
Now I know what your going to say, "gas is cheaper".... Well yes it is, but that's because gas is less efficient, gas produces two forms of energy, heat and light (which we don't use or need). Electic heaters on the other hand produce only heat and are actually almost 100% efficient per unit.
^^ With the exception of fan heaters which use about 1980Watts creating heat and 20Watts making the fan spin around.
So i'd like to know if this was taken into account when working out this £68m!!! Because otherwise logic and science just punched a whopping great big hole in their "research".
They need to stop ramming nonsense down people's necks and let them actually think for themselves!
Laziness causes waste and laziness is perpetuated by reliance on other people for what and how to think, make decisions and run their own homes.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

£68m. That is about £1.08 per year per person.
As I do not pay the lecky at work, it goes down.
Not all then bull coming from the BBC is true!0
