Kitchen with no sink - tips please
To prepare and mold treat one of the walls in our kitchen OH says we will have to do without a sink for 2 weeks (probably more). We have no dishwasher (and no washing machine either now). Does anyone have any tips to reduce the washing up/food prep hassle? I could prep stuff now but it would still need bowls etc to reheat…

What can I do with wine?
I was given a bottle of fizzy wine recently but we don't drink. Is there any way I can use it up in cooking? It's a rose - is that a sweet wine? If so it won't go well in a bolognese. We've also got a bottle of red wine which someone gave us 5 years or so ago which I will eventually use in cooking (it's probably turned to…

Cherry Ripe
I know there is a slim chance that anybody might be able to ask, but thought I would try. I really want to make some cherry ripes. I've looked on the interweb but most have tried to convince me to have a cakey base on them, and they vary on ingredients. Just wondering if anybody had a tried and tested recipe. Thanks. For…

Flavoured coffee/ vanilla syrup
In this hot weather I love iced coffee, but only tend to have it occasionally in a coffee shop as I always have it with sugar free vanilla syrup. Just wondering if anyone has tried using vanilla extract directly in coffee and if so how much to use? Or can you make a sugar free syrup at home? thanks.

Have you taken any courses to help with OS living?
I did a couple of courses to help me in my OS living, and have just signed up for another. I've did a one day course on Crochet (but I think I need a longer one to master it), and I've just finished a year long course on Herbalism and learnt some nice traditional remedies. In September i'm starting a 11 week Breadmaking…

Clothing?
Do you have loads of clothing? O just enough bits to get by? Do you tend to buy from CS? New, cheaply? Or expensively? Do you treat your clothes as throw-away. Or buy quality to last? I don't buy from cs. But then most things I buy online! I've bought the occasional item from eBay but most of it is new as I don't want to…

Lamb fat
I cooked a joint of lamb in the slow cooker at the weekend. It's now portioned up & frozen as is the stock. I'm left with a slab of fat off the top of the stock. Found a few pages on lamb stock but not much mention of the fat so if anyone has suggestions on good ways to use it the'll be much appreciated. Already got roast…

How far would you go...
Hi all, Just posted in another thread about feeling enraged by my massive energy bills that have gone up by so much. Obviously the MSE response is to change supplier but I have already done this and am with the cheapest supplier already. This made me think that with prices rising on every side (food, energy, petrol, rent),…

Herman issues :(
Morning everyone! I'm needing a bit of advice please on a Herman friendship cake that I was given. I'm on the last day today, but have discovered I may have done something quite wrong with it. :o The instructions said to add 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of flour at intervals. I'm not very up on that, but did notice it said 1…

There is a shower in my ensuite which was used for a couple of weeks when I first moved in (many moons ago!) and has never been used since. eta I decided to use the main bathroom instead as the bedroom got too hot using the shower in the ensuite! The tray is just off white and is…

Jazzing up old furniture for young person's room
Can anyone direct me to a site with details on renovating old, cheap furniture? We are moving out of a furnished house to an unfurnished house. A friend offered us some bits of cheap 50's furniture, wardrobes etc. None of it is antique or expensive - but we really can't afford to buy new just now. Most of it is for my…
