OK - admitting defeat and asking for help!

There is a shower in my ensuite which was used for a couple of weeks when I first moved in (many moons ago!) and has never been used since. eta I decided to use the main bathroom instead as the bedroom got too hot using the shower in the ensuite!

The tray is just off white and is - I'm ashamed to say - absolutely filthy as I've not cleaned it for errrrr let's say quite a while as it's not used. The cats have been using it to sleep in (the hot water pipes run under it ;))

Anyway, noticed the other day just how revolting it is and have tried everyday household cleaners and it just won't shift the dirt.

Any OS things I could try? TIA

Not OS at all, but "Bath Power" cleaning spray used with a non-scratch scourer has successfully cleaned some truly revolting shower trays that I've had the misfortune to come across. I've also had some pretty good results with a Spontex bathroom cleaning cloth - it's grey, microfibre on one side and hessian on the other.

So what have you used up to now.

Try plugging the hole up and putting domestos on it diluted with water up to the rim.

You maybe need something a little abrasive like CIF.

You naughty boy, and keep the door shut when you get it cleaned so the cats cant get in, even better keep your bedroom door so they cant get in the room at all.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

  • Thanks both .... McKneff ..... I'm a girl :) (not sure if that makes it even worse!:o)

I was thinking about Cif but didn't think you could get it anymore:o will have a hunt at the sm at the weekend.

Have been worried about trying anything too harsh with the cats going in there (they do have a "thing" about bleechy type products for some reason).

Waffle can you get those cleaning cloths at the sm?

If you get it clean and you really dont want to chase the cats out, put an old blanket down and wash it regularly.

Sorry, presumed you were a fella,:D

Hi astonish paste is good for stuff like that, in a dark blue tub, can usually get it for £1. It's supposed to be for cookers I think, but great on upvc window frames, tiles and grout, bathroom stuff etc. sort of polish it on with a soft cloth, bit of elbow grease, and scoop as much as you can out to bin before you rinse with water.

Does the shower have a plug? You could fill it with water, put a mug or 2 of biological washing powder in there, and leave it to soak for a few hours. That should shift it.

Best and cheapest way bicarbonate of soda - this is basically what all cleaners and abrasives contain. Get some bicarb of soda and mix with a small amount of washing up liquid and water into a rough paste. rub it all over the shower tray leave it for 20 minutes then use a green scourer and scrub with water. Not only will it clean but it will also 'bleach' the off white colour back to white.

This is also good for oven cleaning as well

Try unblocking the drain if necessary by pouring down some bicarbonate of soda, followed by some clear vinegar. This solution should fizz and bubble up, and give your pipes a good cleaning out!
