I'd try bicarb but with the additional of a vinegar solution to be sprayed over before you start scrubbing - that will react with the bicarb and froth up, lifting some of the dirt and old soap scum off the surfaces.

It really does get the off-white colour sorted as well!

If you mix bicarc with washing up liquid it makes a good cream cleaner like cif. Worth a try. :)

If you get it clean and you really dont want to chase the cats out, put an old blanket down and wash it regularly.

Ohhhh don't worry, a nice fleecy blanket will be going in the bottom of the tray from now on!

I've found the "Magic sponge" can also be very good in the bathroom, especially on hard to reach areas.

Also recommend a cheap fleece, for cosy kitties, and a clean shower!

So, Asda's faux Cif did the job.

Dont forget to wash the fleece often, grease from the cats fur can still get through eventually.

    Well done,
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I use own brand cif for lots of things - yellowed paintwork; allsorts, use it regularly in ceramic basin and when scrubbing the loo. It lifts grease off kitchen cupboard tops...I wouldn't be without it

(also good for outdoor toys; patio tables etc BUT be aware it is abrasive)

Had the shower tray not come clean I would have suggested (with care) a couple of dishwasher tabs for a soak - they are caustic, make a caustic (alkaline) solution and must be used with caution.

Stardrops - block the plughole if there is no plug and empty the whole bottle in if it is really bad and use a nailbrush to scrub it around. It is a liquid not a cream (hence the reason you need to block the plughole) but a seriously good OS secret and can be used for just about anything. I even used it as a carpet shampoo when my then 3yo used black permanent marker all over our brand new pale green carpet whilst OH's back was turned! It cleans just about anything.
For more cleaning ideas see this thread.

  • Thanks Debby I must try and get some of this wonderful stuff that I keep hearing people talk about - we've only small sm here (18 mile round trip) and they don't stock it. The bigger ones probably do (44 mile round trip) so I must try to remember to get some the next time I'm there!
