Schwartz Castilian Hash
Back in the 80's Schwartz issued some little recipe booklets called "Cooking with Herbs and Spices". I have lost mine but there was a recipe in the "Dishes of the World" edition called Castilian Hash. It was very cheap but gorgeous and easy, I cannot remember the recipe (it used chick peas and mince I think).Does anyone…

I made a huge vat of beef stew and dumplings for dinner last night, unsuprisingly all the beef and dumplings went but I am left with a huge bowl of 'stew juice' and veg - any ideas what to do with it?! Thanks! x

Sea bream
Hi, I got a whole sea bream from Tesco just now, the OH is home at 9:00pm and I want to get it cooked for her. It's whole, I was thinking in the oven with milk, but I only got soya milk, so a bit of that & some butter.... How long for? How about some diced garlic in with it? Should I fillet it first? Easy to fillet? Fillet…

Ethically sourced meat
Now I am having a bit of a crisis at the moment. I have been hearing and reading about various methods of killing animals and I am not impressed. And whilst I have no desire to turn fully veggie, I do want to cut back on meat and ensure what I do buy has had a good life and ending. I am therefore trying to source some…

Cooks - help me please! Spices for Xmas cake?
Can you tell me what spices should go in a Christmas cake? I've bought a Delia box kit for a Christmas cake, but the spices are missing - the box just says mixed spices. What spices do I need to put in? I probably have them in the cupboard... A quick answer might mean I'm not up all night waiting for this to bake!

Mashed potatoes? Cheaper way of doing it.
Buy large potatoes. Pierce liberally with skewer. Put two or three in microwave till done - about 10 minutes depending on quantity. Then peel and mash. Saves all the peeling, washing and fuel cost of boiling for 20 minutes or more.

Re-covering a lampshade.
How easy is it to do please when it's a table lamp shade. Coolie style I suppose you would call it. I have copydex and I have the fabric. We re-did our dining room chairs on Friday with fabric, staple gun and copydex and they look great so wondered if I could do the lampshade. Thanks:)

Staying warm, body warmers, not that good?
It's getting a bit cold now, so this morning I thought I needed a bit more than just a t-shirt and jumper while doing the housework. I was given a body warmer as a Xmas present last year, but have never used it, as I wear a fleece jacket while working outside. I thought the body warmer would be ideal for indoors, but I…

What to do with all these tins?
I've ended up with a couple of tins of green lentils, 4 of kidney beans and one of chick peas, a tin of coconut milk and a little jar of tamarind paste. Any ideas on how to use these up as they've been sitting in my cupboard for months (in fact, I think I inherited most of them from my mum who had a clear out at the start…

Crumble disaster - can it be salvaged!!
Don't laugh but yesterday evening I thought I'd prepare ahead todays apple crumble and ended up having a fight with it as it just wouldn't "crumble". I walked out in disgust on it last night (I've made crumble loads before and never had a problem). This morning I realised my mistake - plain not s - r flour and most of all…
