Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 22nd November. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Oh the joys of insomnia, still, 4:30 is better than 3:30, in fact it's only an hour before I should be getting up. Yesterday was a good day, I received £80 of Amazon vouchers, so I have ordered a cover for my Kindle & I will start ordering books as soon as I've read all the ones I've transferred from Hubby's Kindle lol.
So far I've tidied the living room & now I need to empty & reload the DW & make the packups, I won't feed the fish just yet, it's a bit early & they tend to look at me as though I'm mad if I wake them up to feed them.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Hester - morning - had typed a long post, but computer heard the weather man saying Frost and froze up!

Morning everyone. After a couple of weeks where I hit rock bottom, I am clawing my way back. Selling furniture, decluttering, taking rubbish to the skip and generally regaining control of my life - hopefully by Friday I'll be there! Taking cat 2 to the vets today to get it sorted out - and today I WILL
    - finish DS1s room - decluttering and tidying up.
    - take things for christmas fair into shed at school.
    - finish clearing / cleaning dining room
    - finally when the boys are back from school I'll put up DS2s new bed.

Then I'll have cleared / cleaned dining room and both boys rooms. Have put an offer in on house we saw at weekend - so will chase that up and see what the result is.

Hugs to all - specially Lou and NPM. xxxxx
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Also I've just clicked CH on for 1/2 hr to take the chill off - Not bad for the 1st time since beginning of the year :money:. Need to order some oil before it gets too near xmas then i won't get any :o.

    Morning everyone,

It seems to be dark or foggy all the time at the moment! Can't wait for a bit of sunshine.

Thanks to all who sent positive vibes for DD2. we still don't know if she has made the team or not as we are going to be informed by e mail, hopefully today, but she is feeling happier.
She has a match for her school today and last school match she was captain so she is focussing on that.

DD1 has lots of dancing tonight and DS has rugby so it will be a quick tea for all of us.

Hugs to NPM, hope things get better for you and DS and you find it easy to make a decision about school.

Hugs to Lou as well and anyone else that I have missed.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

Good Morning All! Woke up about an hour ago with headache...possible something to do with wine and cheese sandwich at 10pm last evening as I'd missed my meal due to a meeting! never mind, will go quickly now I'm up and about. have stripped the spare bedding (should have been done at w/e, but there..) and that's whizzing round as I type. Need to complete the inspection report today. Have purchased calendar through the organisedm%% site this year - love the flylady one as a rule, but can't afford to pay more in postage than it actually costs. This one also has large spaces so I think it will do nicely. Just need to transfer all the info from the old one today and it can then go up (like Flylady's it goes from August one year to December of the next.)
My new moleskine notebooks and diary also came yesterday, so they'll be dragged into use for various lists kater today too. What makes you think I love new stationery???
HH - I love my Kindle, so I'm really pleased you had yours for your birthday.
emsf73 - glad you're on the up once more!
Well done on keeping the heating off thus far BB - afraid we succombed a while back. However, it's hardly on much as the new insulation in walls and loft really does seem to have made a difference to the overall warmth of the house.
NPM - do not beat yourself up. You can only repond to your DS's needs as they are at the time. Maybe he does need a different setting now - it doesn't mean you were wrong when you first assessed where he'd be best placed, things do change.
DS still in hospital, they'll probably make a decision on where he should be later today. Really hope they don't just send him home as his mood is so low I know he'll just do the same again...
Well I need a cuppa now so will put the kettle on and curl up with my lists. May even get to tick things off later on! Really need to mealplan today too.
Hope you all have a good day.

Morning all. Glad you had a good birthday HH.
esmf- good you;re getting on top of things again, feels good ay?

I'm wrapped in a duvet waiting for the water to get hot enough for me to wash my hair. I should have done it last night (along with various other things) but OH came over at 8pm to look at some flats then discovered he hadn't done his OU assignment for the 23rd and because I'm soooo kind(despite being very angry...) I helped him finish it and didn't get to bed until 12.30. It's going to be a long cold day :(
Lunch is rice + all the odds and sods from the fridge, dinner will be sprout soup (big batch) and crusty brown bread.

  • Morning :)

Yesterday was a good day, I was feeling well and managed to do a list of food DH can cook for him and DS which is healthy, easy, cheap, filling and last 3 days... without them eating chips on a daily basis. After I finished sewing the cat net (thank goodness!). After I was feeling very poorly, but I think I just did way too much (So DS made meatballs for dinner and DH made a spaghetti sauce).

At least it's done and today will be a feet up day (although I need to make a pizza base for the boys and bread and fold some washing!) We'll see how I fair today!

Hope everyone has a great day x

  • Morning all, glad you got your Kindle HH they are brilliant I think, I am knitting a cover for mine as £30 a pop is a bit steep I think.I am using up odds and ends of wool in multi colours.
Well the weather is still a bit damp and foggy but not too cold.School run this morning with the boys and then a quick trip to the bank to get some cash out then home and feet up in front of the fire for a few hours with my knitting and some catch-up t.v.
Porridge for breakfast today I think as its a good starter on a chilly morning and warms the tum up a treat I make mine with water and a sprinkle of salt on the top and some milk around the edges just as I had over 66 years ago when I was small I don't like the instant stuff, I like proper oats.I make make my DGS some coconut cookies later today as he tried some yesterday that I had made on Sunday and loved them.
Tonight for dinner I have some chicken casserole from the freezer .Its great shopping from the freezer as it means I am not having to trail around shops getting sneezed over by folk with colds etc.I stayed away from crowded places last year and got through the winter almost unscathed, apart from a tiny sniffle that I dosed up quickly before it had time to develop
Eldest DD and SIL and his parents are going to see Jimmy Tarbuck tonight in Dartford Its SIL's dads 80th birthday next month and they thought a night out would be just the thing for the pair of them Hopefully the fog will go before tonight as I don't like to think of them on the motorway in the fog
Hope everyone has a good day and keep up the good work lou we're all behind you
    Cheers chums

    Morning all!

Feeling a bit better today. Cough has broken at last. Spent yesterday, in my jim-jams, eating pizza and watching Christmas movies on Sky!:rotfl:

Got an ebay parcel to post this morning, then another easy day, as I have things on tomorrow and want to be okay by then.

JackieO and Hester - I was a library assistant for 20 years and was dead against a Kindle. Then OH got me one for my birthday. Took it on holiday, now addicted! Still get books from Charity shops, but take my Kindle in my handbag everywhere:T
Noticed last week Poundland are selling accessories for Kindles! Silicone skins and clip on lights for £1:eek:

    Have a good day all.
