cheap stuffing for sewing projects
I don't wear tights so don't have any to recycle and kapok is so dear. A trip to the sewing shop on the high street had me raising my eyebrows this morning and keeping my money in my purse till I'd had a chance to enquire on here. Does anyone know of cheap, washable stuffing ideas for soft toys & Xmas decorations please.…

what did I do wrong? I made pastry pie?
Ok so I made my first attempt at pastry. For a start it all broke into bits everytime I tried to pick it up so I thought I will not be beaten! so I added my pie filling (chicken and leeks in sauce) into a dish and added the little pieces of broken pastry over the top until they covered it. It took about an hour to cook and…

How much would I get for a beer can?
Hi, if your confused, I was sitting around for hours thinking of ways to make extra cash. I then thought about trading cans and tins into a scrap yard. Does anyone know how much I would get for the average sized beer can? I know it may sound an odd idea but I thought it might get me something. :) Thanks Lewis

Typical budget for a single person/student?
First, sorry if I'm not posting this in the right place. Feel free to move it if necessary. I've recently moved out from my family home and have really got no clue about what sort of budget is typical, since I've never had to buy everything for myself before. I'm just trying to be as cheap as possible. So for any of you…

Which dishwasher tablets do you use?
I have been using the co-op own brand eco dishwasher tablets but can't get them any more in the 2 stores near me. They have started stocking Planet Clean ones but I don't think they clean as well. Any recommendations? I do like to use eco products but like an all in one tablet rather than having to use separate salt and…

The rules of facebaking: 1. One must have prepared the food that is shown. 2. A tea towel must be placed over ones shoulder. 3. Wearing an apron is optional, but is preferred. 4. One must assume a chef like pose. 5. All pictures must have a caption that begins with "There's your_______" *for example "There's your cinnamon…

Do you use new technology for everything?
I know how technology has advanced over the years. I can't help but move along with some of it. I always thought I preferred actual books until I got a Kindle for my birthday and just love the convenience of it. I used to love my simple Nokia phone until it broke and I got a Blackberry and now, although the Blackberry…

Crazed slow cooker crock pot
I'm wanting to start using the slow cooker again now the weather's cold, but the glaze on the crock pot (the bit that goes inside iyswim) has cracked in a sort of crazy paving pattern which means the liquid leaks through the ceramic a tiny bit. Do you think I could (carefully!) line it with foil or something each time I…

Tree Presents - ideas please
We're having a family get together on 27th December and, since it'll be an all day thing with some family members staying over, I thought it would be nice to go completely mad and open it up to friends on an "open-house" basis. As there will be plenty of family presents flying around, I'd like to supply little tree…

I've done a load of searches and can't seem to find it other than Mr Harriot's version and I loath paying more for postage than I do for the item!!!! Or can anyone recommend a grain that I can use to substitute it with…

What are all the different dried beans for?
In my local supermarket they have shelves of different dried beans and I would love to try using some but I don't really know what the differences are and what to make with them. Are there any good sites with recipes for them, and do all beans need to be soaked before using or just some? Thanks for any help!

Best way to deal with sick on a carpet - at the time of impact
Ok, a bit of a grim topic I realise. After the DD (nearly 1) threw up for the first time (properly) this morning, I'm starting to worry about our new carpets! I've already read threads on here about dealing with sick, days or weeks after the event (once the carpet is stained). Being as prevention is better than the cure,…
