Which dishwasher tablets do you use?

I have been using the co-op own brand eco dishwasher tablets but can't get them any more in the 2 stores near me. They have started stocking Planet Clean ones but I don't think they clean as well. Any recommendations? I do like to use eco products but like an all in one tablet rather than having to use separate salt and rinse aid. I have a Bosch dishwasher and tend to use the short/quick cycle. Some tablets I have used in the past seem to leave the glasses and mugs with a horrible taste so would like to avoid this!

Thanks for your help.

  • The cheapest!! I have a list of things I never buy at full price, I stock up on when there is a special offer, glitch, or money off coupon. I have never found much difference in any off them.

I am using up my stock from Te*co DTD (RIP:(), so using finish at the moment. Very good results. hth

I too have a Bosch dishwasher and use the quick cycle mostly.
I have heard that it's best to use either capsules or powder for the quick cycles, that's what I do.

For the full cycles I use tablets.

My dishwasher is connected to the hot. My hot water tank is set just below 50 degrees. My Bosch instructions say you can connect it to a hot water supply. It must be below 60 degrees or it will ruin the built in water softner.

Also, you can adjust the temperature to get a hotter rinse on all programmes, which I have done. This makes most things dry at the end of a quick wash (not all plastics) and of course it's cleaner.
  • I used to be terribly snobby about dishwasher tablets and would only use Fairy Platinum, but after a recommendation on here, I bought the Aldi all in one ones and they are fab! I have had no problems at all and my filter seems to stay cleaner for longer too with them. I'm not sure how they are on the eco front though, but they do clean well and I have never noticed any taste on glasses.

  • I use tesco value dishwasher tablets and they are probably better than finish etc!

We always use these - always fine, but just to say our stuff is rinsed before we put it in.
We use the shortest cycle and if we use Finish, the tablet doesn't dissolve. No use at all!

I use Finish for full cycle but only buy them when they're on special offer. If I'm doing a short cycle I cut a Tesco Daisy one in half and use that with no probs.
  • I use the cheapest - which these days is Aldi's own brand (the cheaper of the two). Never had any problems with taste, cleaining or filters. Never pay more than 10p/tablet! 5 to 7p is about right - but you can do better than that if you spot offers!

Lidls work fine for me. I occasionally add a squirt of lemon juice as it reaches the rinse cycle and soda crystal once a month to help with clearing grease and scale. (Check out the old-style thread for more info) HTH :)

  • I also have a Bosch dishwasher and am a big convert to Aldi's Magnum All-in-one tablets, I've been using them for about a year and they give really excellent results. And here's my tip for dishwasher rinse aid - mix 7-8 drops of tea tree oil with a cupful of cheap white vinegar, then make up to 500ml with water (I reuse an old rinse aid bottle to mix, store and squirt). Write the recipe on a white sticky label and stick it to the front of the bottle for the next time you need to make it. Effective, low cost and eco-friendly!
  • Thank you all for your replies. No Aldi or Lidl near me unfortunately. I have Asda and Sainsburys and use Tesco online sometimes.
