OS Daily Friday 18th November

OS Daily Friday 18th November
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 17th November. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

  • Morning all

I'm wide awake due to the jetlag :( but am using it to my advantage and catching up on stuff.

For those of you who are interested here is a quick low down of my trip (sorry to bore those of you who aren't!! :rotfl: :p)

    - 3 days in Hong Kong. Stayed in Chinatown. First night went to see the aazing light show in the harbour. 2nd day went to see the Giant Buddha statue via cable car, absolutely amazing! Wandered street markets in evening. 3rd day went to Victoria Peak via funicular (train up steep mountain!). Breathtaking views from the top, could see whole city. River cruise in afternoon.

    - 6 days in Sydney. It rained first 2 days so I wasn't happy, plus I had vertigo spell on flight so was feeling rough too, but by the 3rd day the sun was shining and I loved Sydney. First 2 days just walked round city, did walking tour, Opera House, walked over Harbour Bridge. 3rd day I went to a Wildlife Park and got to cuddle koalas and feed kangeroos :j and then in the evening I went to a gig and met Craig Mclachlan (Henry for Neighbours in the 80s!!). It was his band and I randomly spotted the gig notice in the free paper so went along. It was in a small pub, I got to meet Craig, chat with him and have photo taken!! Best day! Other days I went to Darling Harbour on the ferry, Manyly Beach on the ferry and shopping etc.

    - 3 days in Melbourne. Again not best weather, but I perserved. Day 1 I explored the city on the free tram and went up the Eureka Tower, highest building. Day 2 I went to St Kilda beach and saw penguins in the wild, then went to the Aquarium and saw more penguins :rotfl:. Day 3 I did the Neighbours tour! Amazing, I got to stand in Ramsey St, and go to the outdoor sets. got to meet the new Dr and the guy who played Stingray.

    - 10 days in New Zealand. The main reason for my trip was my friend's wedding. We met 3 years ago at Camp America and she is truely one of my closest friends :). Another friend from cap was there also so it was great to catch up. Lots of wine flowed, hen do was lovely - burlesque dancing, dinner and live band. Me and my American friend escaped for a few day trips. We went to Waiheke Island and did vineyard tours, and climbed Rangitoto which is a dormant volcano. Awesome times. The wedding was fantastic, beautifully sunny day, bride looked stunning and everyone enjoyed. I was made to feel so welcome by everyone I met there, some i'd met on my previous trip so it was nice to see them again. My friend went off on honeymoon straight after the wedding, I left 2 days later.

    - 2 days in Singapore - Day 1 explored Chinatown, went on a Duck Tour, visited the F1 circuit (I got to go right up to the pit garages!!), went on the Singapore Flyer (like the London Eye) and lots of shopping! Day 2 more shopping and exploring, then heded to airport for spa treatments and to use the rooftop pool :)

All in all I had an amazing trip, saw so many landmarks and met so many lovely people!! :D

Anyway, back to the OSness. WM is on, I've written shopping list as have no fresh stuff here, need to finish unpacking and sorting out stuff.

Other plans for today include dyeing my hair, catching up on uni stuff and generally getting back on track ready to enjoy the weekend!

    Have a fab day all

  • FB - Welcome home, I loved hearing about your trip - I've been to Hong Kong, Australia and Singapore and hearing about your travels brought back some lovely memories - HK especially as it was my honeymoon there 2 yrs ago. Mind you I think you are really good getting the WM on and being organised this time of day - jet lag or not :rotfl:

Am at work and it's a difficult shift, no rest break so far since 1800 last night - and still tonight to work before days off :o

I did a lot of organising yesterday, posted DD2's coat which she left behind when moving to Cardiff - it wasn't that cold a month ago and her case was full :rotfl:Booked flu jab, dropped prescription off and booked Dr's appt to discuss am I properly menopausal or just a miserable, moody and excessively sweaty woman???

Will try to pop in again later, big hugs to all in need,

    Jan x
  • Morning flutterbyuk25 and all those to follow.

flutterbyuk25 your trip sounds amazing. Actually one of the places I've loved the most out of everywhere Ive been has been New Zealand. So i always love hearing about what other people got up to when they were there.

Im feeling the start of another cold coming along. I just dont seem to get rid of it. Had this stupid cold on and off for the past month. But my head has been feel stuffy all day and now I have a pounding head ache. At least I have finished teaching for the day. And only a few more hours until I can go home.

This weekend I need to get my house in order, do some laundry, vacuum, clean the bathroom... Its going to be a fun weekend :rotfl:

    Have a good Friday everyone.

    Cheers chums
  • Morning all
Sounds like a fantastic trip FB
Dropped hubby at the station with his packup, got home & he phoned me, the trains are delayed, but there is no explanation, so I went online, signal disruption, some lowlife has probably nicked the copper, it will be 8 before the trains get sorted, so he'll be late for work & therefore late home. Oh !!!!!! I have a tesco delivery due between 5 & 9.
DW finished & ready to unload, fish fed Julie, lol, breakfast eaten.
CiN day today, so I have £5 in copper coins to distribute to the children at work who will be selling cakes & shaking buckets at regular intervals. It's non-uniform day today & staff have been told they can wear jeans if they pay £1, I've paid my £1 but I shan't wear jeans, I'm shaped like Dawn French, I do not do jeans!
Tea tonight is Chicken & chips.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning all,

Mild here today, heating clicked on for about 10 mins, got to tempretue and went off again :T, so nice and warm.

Dreading C I N day at work, we have to pay to park, then we have endless people coming round with raffle / cakes / anything else they can think of, would cost a fortune if you said yes to everything.

Flutterby, your trip sounds amazing :T, keep us posted on new blokey, I have a good feeling about him :D

Work today, meatballs and pasta tonight, and loads of stuff finishing on ebay, made a good profit so far.

Need to get a wash on tonight, will shove it on the airer overnight.

Will nip in and see dad after work, will only be for 1/2 hour as I then have to pick dd up, mum and sis went yesterday, and his tea was one toasted tea cake  this is to keep him going from 5 yesterday till 7.30 this morning, and he is diabetic, sis marched up the corridor and got the manager, assistant manager in etc, they were all horrified, and the manager blamed the chef, saying she has told him once, although I blame her just as much she is supposed to be in charge , any way we are having a review with the sw, and they are giving us a weeks menu in advance so we can check it.

Hugs to all in need, have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Sun trying to break through light cloud, feels really nippy here this morning. DH just phoned, think when he realises how much I do when he has to fend for himself! :D
Had nice quiet evening last night, boys watched some tv and I spent some time on here and just pottering about. DH went away at 10.30am yesterday so I had most of the day to myself, did the usual washing, drying, ironing and then some housework. Dinner last night was pasta with bol. sauce, used up HM tomato sauce from the freezer so am slowly but steadily using up food from the freezer. :T
Will be dropping DS2 to school shortly then going straight to the supermarket to do some food shopping, once I'm home will then be taking DS1 to a hospital appt in the next town, absolute nightmare as roads always busy and car parking is horrendous so hoping I can get there and parked ok. Once he's had appt I will drop him back to school, come home get my stuff packed and ready to go and go off to join DH at the rally. Boys are being met by grandparents from school and going there for the weekend, we will collect them when we come back Sunday afternoon.

Best crack on have a great Friday and weekend everyone.

Have a great day everyone, hugs to those that need/want them, take care.

    Morning,

FB the trip sounds wonderful, I love Australia and Singapore, I have never been to New Zealand but it is on my list
Hester I am glad your not neglecting those fish:D
Redruby, its unbelievable that they can't get something so simple sorted like making sure someone has enough food:mad: I am sure you and your sister will sort them out.

Well the room is coming on a treat. We have finished all the woodwork and onto the second coat on the walls, then the paper can go on the feature wall. We have a family room attached to the kitchen so we are trying to get the living area finished before moving into the kitchen proper iykwim. It's amazing how as we work through we are saving money on different bits and pieces by re using, fixing, revamping etc. We would never have done that in the dark old days before OSiness.

Tea tonight is also meatballs and pasta for us.

Will go shopping with DH when he gets home, need to go Mr S's as they do a range of childrens wear called Charlie Bear and we want to get our DGS Charlie a pair of pjs as part of his Christmas box.

Also need to post more ebay stuff and nip to the library. Have a good day all J x

  • Morning All

Looks like it is going to be dry and breezy today so washing machine is on. I have quite a bit to do because the TD is gone and I have washing drying everywhere  DH has told me that we are getting a dri buddy at the weekend so that it will sort that problem out :D

I have some craft bits for the school fete to finish by next weekend so that is my afternoon sorted.

Dinner tonight is chicken and bacon in mushroom sauce with new potatoes and broccoli.

    Redruby........Good for you having a go :T
It makes my blood boil how these homes get away with things.

If you get no joy from the SW you can complain to the Care quality commission.
    http://www.cqc.org.uk/

Well sounds like the machine has finished and I must give DD another scream

    Have good days all x
