Alcoholic Marshmallow?

Morning everyone,
I made my first batch of home made marshmallow yesterday and i was surprised at how easy it was and how well it turned out (i have none left now!). But i got to thinking that i would quite like to make some vodka marshmallow for a prezzie this year, would it work if you soaked the geletin in vodka instead of water? or would the geletin not work?
Hope somebody has experimented with this before!

Interesting idea, I like your style! However I've got a sneaking suspicion from somewhere that alcohol is hard to set. I have made alcoholic jelly (a long time ago) and seem to recall I had to make the jelly up and then add the alcohol as he cold bit and it was quite a soft jelly but then I was in my late teens at the time and for some unknown reason it's all a bit of a blurr!!! LOL Guess you'll just have to have a go on a small scale and let us all know how it works out - as long as you're not using grey goose it shouldn't be too expensive and you can always eat the results with a spoon if it doesn't work.0

lol, i like that....eat it with a spoon! :rotfl:
I was thinking, the recipe calls for 100ml of water to dissolve the geletin, so maybe i could try one with 25ml vodka/75 ml water and then one with 50/50 and see how they work?! I have to get some smirnoff for some flavoured vodka anyway so we will see.
I wonder if it works with baileys....my stepdad can't get enough baileys! :rotfl: this could be fun!0 -
It seems to work, with Bailey's anyhow:

On one of the cooking programs yesterday evening thye said that alcohol effected the set of gelatine don't know if it meant it will take longer to set or you would need to use more.Debt Free Dec 2009non-smoker 19th Nov 2010Trying to lose weight 40lb/42lb

I saw that too, on britains best dish, but i wont be using straight vodka, but a vodka/water mix. I will have to experiment and see how it turns out!0
