(Indoor) SURVIVAL cooking and heating
(I have already posted this in 'in my home' but it strikes me as something much more suited to Old Style. Mods please do whatever you think best for it.) I have put together, finally, an emergency store of equipment and food in case the lights go out big time this winter - i.e. for a considerable period measured in weeks…

Using up apricot compote
Hi OSers :) Long story short... Big jar of runny compote Use within 3 days, blah blah... Well it's been weeks and I just had to pick mould out of it. But I think it's otherwise fine ;) There's lots left (the large part of 600g) and it's a shame to chuck it - anything I can use it up in? Maybe something I can freeze? I do…

Stewing Beef...How To Make Tender
Lurking in my freezer are some small bags of stewing beef. I`m a lousy cook, in general, but given our extreme financial circumstances, have to make the best of this. There are about half a dozen bags of beef, small bags, but the OH isn`t so keen on beef stew mainly because every time I make it, the beef is so tough,…

Is it worth paying £50 to have a pair of boots re healed and soled?
I have a pair of black Timberland boots which I love and have had for ages. The heals have worn down and when I took them to a heal bar to have them re healed I was advised it wasn't worth having them just healed as the soles are getting thin too and to do both would be £50. So should I have them done or just go for a new…

Net bags
Does anyone know where I would get an old fashioned net bag. I bought onions at the cash & carry and need to be able to store them, thought this would be ideal as it will allow air to circulate. Thanks

Kenwood or Kitchenaid or Magimix ?
I know there's a thread on here about which Kenwood but I want to get DD one of these three and can't decide which. I think she likes the Kitchenaid best (which of course is more expensive) but she does more chopping than cake making so I think a Magimix would be better. I don't really make cakes or bread in my Magimix -…
