Does anyone know where I would get an old fashioned net bag. I bought onions at the cash & carry and need to be able to store them, thought this would be ideal as it will allow air to circulate.
Thanks

And if you can't get an empty carrot sack or alternative - lacy tights work wonders - and look wonderfully silly, especially if you fill both legs and hang them up from the middle!0

An old pillow case is just as good. I use pillow cases to store my allotment onions and spuds.Val.0

My Dad used to use old pairs of stockings, or I suppose nowadays it would be tights with a knot at the top and bottom and hang them up in a garage or dry shed.I haven't seen one of the old fashioned net bags for years My Mum had one which she would carry the veg back from the market in.In those days the stuff wasn't put into plastic or paper bags as paper carriers bags were bought and paid for . Most women always carried a small 'net' in case they needed to buy something and it tucked away neatly in their handbags.A paper carrier cost 2d and the stronger ones with wood and string handles were 4d canny housewives carried their own bags to get the shopping .If on the rare occasion Mum had to buy a brown paper carrier bag it was used over and over again until it was almost falling apart then twisted into small screws of paper to light the range with in our kitchen .This generation didn't invent recycling, it was around 60 odd years ago brought about by the make do and mend generation and housewives who made evry copper count.Nothing was ever wasted in our house0

Pound shops sometimes have hessian sacks which would work just as well, though probably not at this time of year.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0
