Old Style Daily Thread Tuesday 7th December 2010

Options
Hi, this is the Daily thread for Tuesday 7th December 2010 . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning x
I decided to start the thread early as I have been to bed and got up again. I do hope to go back but need to wait for my meds to work their magic.

I have just caught up with yesterdays news. There seems to be many people who are poorly, supporting poorly people or who are sad. Take care and nurture yourselves. I agree that this season makes problems or sadness 100 times worse. Remember that this too shall pass.
Mioliere - hope for the future for you BIL and all of you.
Noahs P Mum - keeping everything crossed for you and yours.
Bargain Bird - wondered if you are ok? Hugs x
Jackie O - Have you read the book Call the Midwife? She tells a similar story about a mother in the East End of London who kept her very prem baby alive by carrying around in a sling skin to skin and dropping milk into the babies mouth with a pipette. Amazing book and very insightful about society at that time.

It sounds horrendous weather again in Scotland. Glad you got home ok Jackie G. We had a true Hoar frost today http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/reports/wxfacts/Hoar-Frost.htm
and as I drove over to see Mooloo the countryside was amazing. I drove very slowly as its single track roads but also to take in the view.

My OS is definitely coming back as my energy levels rise again. I too made Leek and Potato soup and had Toad in Hole for tea yummy!! My house is clean which is lovely and Im almost organised for christmas apart from wrapping.

Well time to turn the fire off and encourage the doggies to go back in their baskets as Im feeling snoozy. Have a good day and keep safe and warm xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I'm dreaming of a white christmas
just like the ones I used to know
Where the treetops glisten and children listen
to hear sleigh bells in the snow
    :xmassmile

    Morning :santa2:
    Chocolate Christmas cracker :D

When we sorted the walls the other day, we forgot to cover a gap we'd knocked out, at the top of the built-in larder cupboard. Every single box, packet and tin is covered in thick dust :D I've been removing them one by one and cleaning them off. The food is being moved into the lounge, the kitchen has to completely empty by saturday.

Boris Pig is much better after his trip to the vet. Turns out he's been grinding his back teeth unevenly, they're a bit sharp and he's finding it painful to eat. I've got some painkillers for him, they should be enough for him to grind without pain. Hopefully he'll get them down properly, if not he'll have to have them filed under anesthetic.

Loulou, make him watch the latest Boots ad :D
Mioliere, I must have missed your posts, hope your BIL is OK :)
Molly and NPM, not sure what's going on with you both so I'll just keep my fingers crossed anyway :D
Glad that JackieG is home safe :)
Hello N9eav, nice to see you :hello:

Yesterday I decluttered and cleaned everything upstairs.

First job of the day is to carry on emptying the kitchen. Break to clean out the piggies, then carry on. Break to go to Morrisons, then carry on. Break for lunch, maybe carry on. Well, it'll be 3.30pm by then, I might not feel like it :D

Just found THIS, all the ads rolled into one. Fab :T

    Good Morning All

Sorry to hear your news Mioliere (((hugs))) to you and everyone else who needs one.
NPM - have everything crossed for you.

Very foggy today and quite cold. Saw on the news Scotland - all you up there take care.

Office day again today, am doing quite a few hours on my new job so can have most of Friday off.

Got caught up with work last night so OH got dinner, therefore gammon and bubble n squeak tonight.

Nothing else to say apart from have a good day & stay safe.x
  • Good morning each & every !

House feels quite cosy this morning, it must be getting milder out there.

Now on my 2nd cuppa. OH is snuggled up in bed. I have a half load of tea towels in the wash, which will be hung up to dry in the garage before work.

My car is nearly ready. Hurrah! I'm so pleased, its only gonna cost me half the garage's highest estimate, as the block isn't cracked & the chain didn't need replacing. I'm so relieved - its still a lot of money, but only half of what I'd saved.

Fisrt parcel going off into the post today. Our village post office is open 2 mornings a week (its a satellite of a neighbouring village), so OH can take it in on his lunch break (he comes home for lunch - lucky devil!).

I am putting a F/R chicken in the SC for tea with afew carrots & swede. Will steam the rest of the veg tonight. I shall not be having the chicken, so should last OH for a good few meals if he behaves himself & doesn't pick every time he goes to the fridge.

Hope everyone has a good day. To those who still have the white stuff - stay safe & warm x

    Morning all.

Woke up hot as the heating had kicked in, must be very cold outside.

We'll need to dig the car out today, it's been stuck for 11 days now and needs must. My thoughts are with all those in Central Scotland who are stuck on the roads in their cars overnight, being stuck at home in the warm with food and toilets pales with that.

Trudged out into town yesterday to pick up some essentials. The council have cleared some parts of the pavement but then stopped dead, most weird. So there's about 50 yards of clearing, then about 150 yards of ice and snow and then it's clear the rest of way into town (about another 150 yards).

Hope that everyone has a good day,

    Morning all

OH up and out to work early which means I am always awake, small fluttering of snow overnight the roads are getting worse, car skidded a little bit yesterday coming out of the Post Office car park - bit scary.
HM soup for dinner and something out of the freezer for tea.
BHF are round today to collect charity bag - yipee as I've had 3 bags worth cluttering the landing for weeks, plus a desk and DS2's old bike, will put it out when he's gone to school so he doesn't realise its gone on preparation for Father Christmas to deliver his new one:santa2:
  • Morning all
Cold & dry here, hubby's been dropped at the station with his packup, breakfast has been eaten & fish fed, I'm having a 2nd cuppa before I go to work.
I put petrol in the car today, it's £120.9 here now, it was £116.9 last week, I put £20 in & that will have to last.
Cottage pie for tea tonight, I'm at WI Wed & Thur, for the Christmas meetings, so I won't need tea either of those nights, I'll do hubby gammon on Wed & pork chop on Thurs.
Time I went to work now.
    Stay safe & warm everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning all - phew feels a bit chilly round my ankles as I drink my coffee. Still staying positive - yesterday I cleared out DS2s room, he brings all sorts of models home from school made of toilet rolls and the like! Then last night we put up the Christmas decorations - so the (Fake) tree is up - just needs an angel to go on the top now. Tea last night was spanish chicken and HM garlic bread.

The rest of the house is in chaos, but I'll get round to that maybe this evening. Its DS1s christmas production this afternoon - so only a short day at work. Will take the calor gas bottles with me on the way to school so I can get refils. Decided to keep the china santa and christmas tree in their boxes (for yet another year!) so I won't spend my entire christmas screaming at the children to be careful. Thought it would be a bit more peaceful!!

Tea tonight - maybe chilli (as I've some mince in the fridge) but will have to bulk it out with potato wedges or something. Today have to clear the dining room once and for all and move the table. Have a great day everyone, need to get the OH up out of bed.

Stay safe - and hugs to those in need.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.
