Old Style Daily Thread Tuesday 7th December 2010

We had 4 inches of snow overnight and its still snowing....DD4 took her son to school and when she got back to her own it was closed, so she is just going to do a bit of school work, head to shops and visit a friend who is 38 weeks pregnant and going stir-crazy as she can't get out, collect DGS2 and head home. No idea what to-morrow will bring, OH has a warfarin clinic appointment as he missed last weeks we will have to make an effort, am always a bit concerned when he is not checked regularly.

Hugs to all who are not well, to those who are snow-bound and especially to NPM...try to stay as relaxed as possible.

Going to do my cards to-day and my cake and pudding....fruit for cake has been soaking in brandy under cling film for more than a week, might make some mince pies as well...will see what the humour is like. Dinner will be chicken, leeks and spuds....nothing fancy, will then strip meat from chicken and make some stock for a pot of soup.

If you don't need to go out, stay home in the warmth.

Hello all

Not been for a few days, boiler still acting up - most of the last week we've had no hot water & no heating! :eek::mad: Had ice INSIDE all the bedroom windows, front door glass & front room window. :eek: Plumber got so much emergency work on that he can't some until tomorrow night - even with us having a 3 yr old & a 1 yr old. Lack of heating I can work round, but no hot water is a real pain. Been boiling kettles to wash, borrowed a d!implex heater & little fan heater, goodness knows how much leccy that will eat, but the other night it was -8 here, & I bet it was close to that inside my house!!
Anyway, moan over - think I've missed loads, so hugs & kisses, best wishes, etc., will try to read a couple of days back.
Made some Christmas biscotti the other day, partly for a present for someone - they're lovely! May have to make some more as stocking fillers. Put dried cranberries, almonds, pistachios, mixed spice in - most of which I had so didn't cost a lot to make - worth the bit of effort they took to make.
Tea is shepherd's pie, bananas & custard for pud, then my night class. Think I'll wrap a few presents & make a few more cards this afternoon.
Do hope you're all as well as the weather/illness/relationships allow!:)

When it gets that cold its a different cold - drier and not so bad and it is sometimes better than the cold with fog which is damp - we were minus 13 last week and further along were minus 20 :eek: We did survive although hibernation sounds good

Afternoon;)

Been to sort dress this morning and alterations have been ok and it fits well:j, veil coming later today hopefully.....we are going to pick it up tomorrow after DS school concert( thats if we can get car out on all this ice:o)
Not good news on the parents front:(.....trains cancelled today again. They were going to drive down but roads either snowbound or gridlocked so can`t even set off as worried about getting stuck in car.
They are going to try for train tomorrow which is the one they booked months ago.....if it isnt running tho they won`t get which is terrible.
Tiredmum in my experience DS gets worse as he gets older....his meltdowns are more frequent and more violent as he is stronger....good job my wedding dress is long as I have huge black bruises on legs:o.
Cheapskate my OH is a plumber and gas engineer.....he has been so busy the last 2 weeks...he has been working on foot as cant get van out but there have been so many boiler breakdowns it has kept him busy and he has walked miles.

Done naff all today Went for a walk in the sunshine and frost with my mum and then went back to her house to help her decorate the Xmas tree. Is it wrong that fondant icing tastes soooooo good Been making reindeer, antlers and mistletoe all afternoon Looks pretty good although I shan't eat any as I don't like fruitcake

just in from work - fish, veg and mash and butter sauce for tea.
DH got a fab fire going so nice and snug but got to go out later to collect DS2 from work.

Another one here glad they are not a brass monkey:eek: I must admit our CH has been on over and above the norm.

NPM Is your wedding being videoed or can a friend/nearer rellie do it for you if M&D cannot make it. Really crossing everything that they can.

Thoughts and prayers to Moiliere's & Jackie-0's DB's.

A bit of advice please, tried making the Lentil & Tomato soup, it is not quite the way you do due to an intolerance of onions and garlic, so made the Stock with boiling water, then heated the milk and added it, and the lentils, opened a tin of whole tomatoes (due to DH's interference:mad:) and warmed them up added them all to the SC, seasoned, and added a little onion salt and garlic powder, all I can tolerate, and not much of it at that, however, I have now blitzed it after 4+ hours and it is bitty/powdery, not a nice texture at all, do the lentils need cooking longer, or maybe the tomato seeds?

More paperwork sorted today, I feel like I am making progress now, and DH has had a marathan shredding session, hoping the recycle team come tomorrow. While he main roads here are not too bad, our cul-de-sac and the road leading to the main(ish) road and dire. Got started on the hat last night and early this morning, must do my Ccards for Spain.

Just heard from my brothers partner Sandra in France that they will be putting two stents in on Friday hopefully.Freezing cold here but no fog.DD has tomorrow off for Christmas shopping so I can have a lie-in with no school run.:):):)
Just put my steak on very low as I like it cooked all through.Wasn't Corrie's crash realistic.

Very cold here and very hard frosts over the last few days has made the place look like a christmas card:)
It was -9:eek: when i got to work this morning. We had a very hard frost again last night and also fog:eek:

I hope that everyone is ok. Iv not read the thred yet.

I had a tin off chunky veg soup for my lunch at work also we had hot mince pies as well today. They were most welcome because of the cold.

Tuna steak tonight for dinner. seved with veg and roast spuds:T I really love rost spuds:T

Taplady how did your DD get on at the weekend? I hope all went well.
