Are the dark tops of leeks edible?
Hi all, I have a huge leek which has a lot of quite tough dark leaves at the top. Normally I would cut them off and throw them away but I would like to use them up if possible. If I give them a good wash and cook them up in a chicken/veg soup which is to be blended smooth, would this be okay? I don`t want to take a chance…

How about a special thread where we can all share our tips for coping with this icy weather? Might be a good idea to keep all our ideas in one place: Mine are:* Keep torches, candles and matches available in case of a power cut. * Have tinned food available (i.e. baked beans) which can be eaten cold if you have no power…

Why can't you freeze a "roast-in-the-bag" chicken?
Last week we did a monthly shop at Tesco and bought 4 roast in the bag chickens and put 3 in the freezer. However having got one of them out, it says on the bag that it's not suitable for freezing. Doh! Does anyone have any idea why it might not be when their other chickens can be frozen quite happily (it's not…
