Cheap but well received gift idea

Cake in a mug.

Go and buy a large microwaveable mug.

Get a sandwich bag and add the following dry ingredients (my hint is to put in a mug first and then transfer to the bag):

4 tbsp plain flour
3 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp cocoa
2 tbsp chopped chocolate
1/8 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp chopped nuts (optional)

Seal bag and place in mug.

Wrap mug and fix a tag. On the tag, write the following instructions:

Put 2 tbsp butter into mug and soften in microwave.
Add 1 egg
Add 1 tsp vanilla essence
Add 3 tbsp water
Add dry ingredients from the bag

Mix well. Microwave on full for 2 m 45 s (based on 800W oven).

Try it yourself before giving as a present. Hold your nerve as you see the pudding rising above the rim of the mug! ;) Lovely if you hollow a space for a dollop of ice cream. I have given many of these this year and people are always impressed with the originality. Also who doesn't like a chocolate pud??!! Lol

Oh I love this idea, it's brilliant, so simple and so novel! Will be trying it out tomorrow.

I've made this cake for myself before but the recipe I have uses oil rather than butter - this sounds much better - I'll have to try it as I was thinking of doing something like this for next Christmas. Would be a bit less labour intensive than the marathon baking session I had this Christmas.
