Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 10th January. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

HSsnowwelcome.gifSallypurple! Hope you get your oven fixed soon!
Cranky - How is the house elf today?
    SunnyGirl - smooch.gifBig hugs honey.
flutterby - Glad you enjoyed the book club and The Bell Jar is a wonderful book!
N9eav - your 'off the cuff' comment is so typical though! And I agree with Thrift, we are just not used to prolonged periods of snow, and maybe as a policeman you tend to see the worst of society, but here on the OS board there are often stories of community spirit in our own areas, so I think it is there if you look for it.
Terisita - I love my slow cooker. I have a big oval 6.5l one and we had a lovely spicy beef casserole this week that did two meals and enough to freeze. It doesn't take up as much room as you would think it would either.
nmlc - well done on the hotel deal! Hope you have a great time.
Candygirl - my youngest nephews first word, and indeed only word for a very long time was 'No'!
Mummysaver - Hope you had a fab birthday hon!
Noahs - hope Noah feels better soon
    Legalblonde - hugs hon
Trift - smoked mackeral and leek tart sounds delicious...is there a recipe pls?

HSshiver.gifSorry I didn't post yesterday. Can't believe the temperatures are so cold down here. It was -11 yesterday and even colder at night apparently. It's been a long time since we have had continued snow on the roofs for so long.

We picked up our new Motability car yesterday. My OH is very excited and I have dutifully admired it from the house. It's way too slippery out there for me to risk going out yet. I love the look of it, but I hate that we are back in debt in order to have it. But I count my blessings that we receive Motability in the first place.

OS-iness will be baking I hope. I want to make some sausage rolls and while I am making pastry, some mince pies with the left over mince from christmas as my OH loves them so much.

I am sorry to end my post on a low note but to those of you who remember me mentioning my friend Pam a while back, I would really appreciate your prayers and thoughts for her as she is on palliative care now.

I hope you all have a peaceful and warm Sunday! With love and light to all.

Well DS was put to bed at 7 last night with calpol and vicks but was still shouting down and crying while I was eating my pizza at 8 despite both myself and OH going up several times. He was getting hysterical about his nose "blockolling""so in the end I went to bed to watch TV and got him in with me for a cuddle....eventually he fell asleep at about 9 30.
Then I heard lots of fussing in the kitchen HS3298.gifhad been sick all over the place:o
DS still up at silly o clock todayheadscratcher.gif
More snow here later apparently and this eveningHSdrift.gif
Today am making HM chicken pie(DS fave) and mash, carrots and greens.
may do an apple crumble if I get round to it. Making coconut and lime cupcakes later and another batch of cookies.
    Also have some HSiron.gifto do:cool::rolleyes:
I have decided I am going to learn to crochet....have had to send off for that new mag as can`t find it anywhere:confused:
I also have to find some time today to do reading practice with DS. He is suddenly getting the hang of it and has gone up 3 reading groups since Sept:Tnot bad with all his difficulties, I think his new one to one has made a big difference.
MSD nice to see you posting.....sorry to hear about Pam. As a palliative care nurse please do PM me if I can help with anything honHSarmhugs_9780.gif

Well off for more coffee.....please stay safe and warm everyone

    Hi,
Its snowing here again today. Im glad Im not working in this as I used to be a community midwife and Im very supportive of all those who are struggling to work. I used to see a lot of people helping each other in my job and dont think it has all gone. We just focus on different things.
My midwife friend totalled her car in the bad weather so is very shocked but ok.

Im determined to get on top of things today as its really getting me down. I have organised the ironing and my kids who have been forewarned that they need to gut their bedrooms as they are in a dreadful state. There will be no roast dinner for them until they have been done to my satisfaction.

WM is on with another load of snow clothes. My DS3 has been out all day everyday which is lovely as this time last year he couldn't move without crying as he had a hip problem which took 9 months to heal with lots of physio and hydro therapy and trips to the hospital. He had 3 months off school and was only part-time for the remainder. It really is better now apart from the odd twinge which calpol and a hottie remedy

    Stay warm and safe x

That's the point you have to look for it!

Most Cornish villages are empty this time of year as 50% of the homes are holiday lets. Those elderly left in the village have no neighbours to look out for them and the local shops are shut due to lack of all year long trade. Those teens in the village instead of helping seem to feel it's more fun blasting peoples windows with snowballs. That is very much multi cultural change...The whole dynamics of that region has changed. There is community spirit if you look for it.....but it's not everyday life anymore.

Anyway, still got the snow and ice here. I have a roast beef for dinner and hopefully all the family are coming over for Christmas 2 as were overseas for the first one.

Penzance was cold but refreshing yesterday, still snow on the beach...

    Keep warm everyone

Blimey love, talk about blowing your own trumpet :D:rotfl:Hope you feel better soon xx

    Morning all,

Been awake since about 5.30, too excited to sleep, its our last full day here (unless the snow stops us ), lots of last moment jobs today, OH work friend is dropping his big van off to us today, so we are going to put all the boxes bags etc in there today.

We are also going to dismantle the beds, and get them down stairs, we will sleep on the matresses tonight. OH is going to disconnect the dw and wm ready to move.

We are all longing for some fresh veg, we have had quick meals such as pasta this week, and even dd is asking for veg, we are off to mums for dinner today, and she is cooking us a roast pork with loads of veg :T:T, and bless her, she is cooking a load of sausages to put in rolls for move day, and has made us a shepherds pie for move night.

Once we are in the new place, I can go and do a big shop, and re stock, thats is there is anything left .

Have good days all, take care in the snow xx

Meant to say thanks to Eric, Pink and all those community workers sill managing to get through in the snow :T:T

    Good morning :D

I'm the first up this morning so am enjoying a bit of peace & quiet before the day's mayhem starts!

Lunch today is gammon, roast potatoes, veg, yorkshire puds & gravy and tea will be cheese, pate & crackers with a salad and trifle.

We don't have many plans apart from going to see MIL, checking on a couple of neighbours, clearing the snow/ice from the front path and the usual washing & drying. The ironing hasn't been too bad with the boys being off school and not wearing shirts ;)

I knitted another couple of squares for the Knit Your Square thread yesterday and am hoping to continue to get to grips with crochet this afternoon. I. too, have decided that it is a craft I would like to learn so have armed myself with a couple of crochet hooks, some books from the library and Youtube demonstrations :rotfl:

NPM Hope that Noah feels better soon

Halight signcensor.gif I shall say nothing! Hope that the twins, and you, are feeling better soon. It's rotten when little ones are poorly.

Have a good day everyone & keep warm & safe.

    Morning everyone.

Had a good time last night meeting up with friends. there were supposed to be a few of us (as we are all old work colleagues) but in the end only 4 (including me and H) turned up  Now A couple cancelled in advance so fair do's but why do people bother saying they are coming to an event when they clearly have no intention  It's not like we have several feet of snow either......anyway had a good natter with several bacardi's and cokes :o No hangover thus proving that I should never drink anything else other than white rum
Have to pop to Mr S today, will try and get up there fairly early. Don't need much thankfully. There is some washing to sort and a tiny bit of ironing. Need to make another loaf at some point as I think the one I made the other day hasn't been eaten as fast and it's probably only good for toasting now.
Not sure what else is on the agenda. Kids will probably want to get out and do something brrrrrr - we are "supposed" to be getting some more snow but will have to see what develops.

Diva - my thoughts are with you and your friend Pam. Hugs to you all xxx

NPM - I actually didn't well up on my wedding day until it came to saying one part of our vows and I managed to keep it together. I walked down the aisle to a string quartet playing Canon in D which I love. I heard a tip to stop you crying is to look upwards with your eyes but that's not very practical for walking :rotfl: I'd just make sure you've invested in some waterproof mascara ;) Sorry you're having a rough time with Noah at the mo - poor thing with his bloked nose. Don't worry about the book - just post it whenever you have time. Leave it til after the snow etc has gone if that makes it easier xx

halight - hope your cold goes quickly x

I am sure there were other things from yesterdays thread I wanted to mention but have now gone clean out of my head. Blonde moment :o
Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.

Another lie in til 6am! I guess that's the best I can ask for, I'm back at work tomorrow so probably best I don't sleep in too late and mess up my body clock again!

DW and WM both went on, and finishes before 8am so all done on cheap electric :)

I'm meant to be going to my parents for lunch today but it depends on the weather. It's only a half hour drive but they live in a rural-ish part so I'm not really wanting to chance ungritted roads. We haven't got snow just ice, but snow is forecast for later today.

I also need to eat up all the unhealthy stuff (not much!) as the diet starts tomorrow. I'm glad of the weather in some respect cos I will be able to walk to work - 20mins - rather than chance driving!

    Have a good day all

    Morning all

What a day yesterday! I was out most of it doing MS jobs and ended up soaked from the feet upwards - finished off with a pizza job tho so wasn't all bad! I had to re-schedule two to today as with the roads being bad I was much slower getting round so will have to pop out for an hour or so later.

Just made a start on packing the kitchen up and I think I'm going to do some baking as there's bits and bobs I could use up and I want to make some lentil soup and some leek & potato soup - some for today and some for during the week. Also have a chicken to roast and I'm going to fry off some peppers, onions & fajita spices to add to some chicken for tomorrows dinner as i can just warm it through in the microwave. I think we're going to set up a 'mini-kitchen' in the livingroom using the dining table to hold the microwave, slow cooker and kettle etc. That way the hot things can go to the back of the table and stay out of DD's reach. Going to be very very cramped for the next week but if needs be the kids can play in their bedrooms out of the way - they have tvs/game consoles up there.

Dinner today will be eggs in some form as I ended up with 3 dozen from the shop visits yesterday! I'm going to hard boil some too for my lunch for work and for DH and DD tomorrow.

OS wise - well i'm decluttering the kitchen....totally! also have to make sure the washing is all done as we're also without a washing machine all week. Should be fun!

Well I better make a start on the soups!

Have a good day and stay safe & warm
