A thread dedicated to surviving this cold weather

How about a special thread where we can all share our tips for coping with this icy weather? Might be a good idea to keep all our ideas in one place:



Mine are:

1. Keep torches, candles and matches available in case of a power cut.
2. Have tinned food available (i.e. baked beans) which can be eaten cold if you have no power for cooking.
3. Dishwasher salt works well for de-icing paths, etc.
4. Keep curtains closed all day in unused rooms to preserve heat.
5. Wear extra layers of clothing. Even indoors most of your heat is lost through your head so wear a woollen hat.
