I have just managed to knock over a drink on my carpet - drink is purple colour, carpet is beige

what should I use on it???! I put a towel on it straight away and pressed down which seems to have taken most of it up

Scrubbing the carpet with a solution of Star Drops and warm water has removed permanent pen and biro from our carpet before (toddlers!!) but it is rather dependant on you having some in. Since it is a drink and therefore a "biological" stain you could use something like vanish or washing gel/powder made to a paste.
  • nothing in :-(

oddly though, when I spilt it, the drink kind of "balled" on top of the carpet. I put the towel on it, and now dabbed it with baby wipes and it's mostly disappeared
  • Blot as much as you can, then clean with either 1001 or something similar as soon as you can. Someone recently said a solution of diluted white vinegar would work well.

Keep blotting with clean towels or kitchen paper, working from the outside to the inside to stop the stain spreading. If you think you've got most of the liquid out but the stain is still there, spray with cold water and keep blotting. Don't let it dry out. Once yo really feel you've done all you can with plain water, switch to a tepid (NOT HOT!!) weak solution of just about any detergent you may have to hand, like washing up liquid. Keep blotting and don't let it dry.

Standing on the towel is a very efficient way of blotting a carpet to get the final drops out.
