What OS sewing have you done today?
I know lots of us here on the OS board use our sewing skills to save money -anything from small running repairs to a major dressmaking project like a wedding dress. Let's share successes, gain inspiration and encourage each other to save some money. Today I made a table cloth out of one end of a single flat sheet and a…

Want to start cooking - help!!
I had a quick look to see if there was a similar thread to this, but couldn't find one, so here goes. Lately I've got into bad habits with cooking, and tend to re-heat things rather than cook from scratch. I'm 3 months pregnant and have been feeling 'off' loads of food, so I've just been eating stodge really. I also have a…

do you think it is possible?
for a single person to live on a food budget of £10 per week if they were able to make everything from scratch? with setting up in a new place, the £10 from the beginning would have to take into account all food and accessories needed, eg oil, salt, etc.

Freezing/Defrosting small tinned tomato portions
Hi, I have been cooking more and more HM meals recently, as it's both healthier and cheaper. I have been making pasta sauce using a base of tinned peeled tomatoes. I use a hand blender to liquidise them then add other ingredients as and when. However, I live alone and find that one standard tin will get me FOUR servings of…

Making a pie in advance?
Hello! I'm going to make a chicken and leek (and possibly bacon) pie to take over to my dad's for dinner tomorrow evening. Would I be better off making it just before I go tomorrow (I plan to actually cook it there), or would it be ok to make it all today and leave it in the fridge until tomorrow? I wasn't sure if the…

Homemade Vegetarian Sausages
Has anyone made tasty vegetarian sausages? I mean ones made with a meat substitute like the Cauldren or Linda McCartney ones that you can buy. Cauldren sausages are now in packs of just four for £1.50, they are extortionate in my opinion so I would like to have a go at making some.
