Freezing/Defrosting small tinned tomato portions

Hi,
I have been cooking more and more HM meals recently, as it's both healthier and cheaper.
I have been making pasta sauce using a base of tinned peeled tomatoes. I use a hand blender to liquidise them then add other ingredients as and when. However, I live alone and find that one standard tin will get me FOUR servings of tomato base. I don't want to eat pasta twice a day for two days. My questions are therefore:
-Can I freeze the blended tomatoes (no other ingredients)?
-What is the best receptacle for such small portion sizes? Ice cube trays?
-Do I need to defrost in the fridge first, or can I just defrost on the hob?
Is there a general thread on what can be frozen and how to defrost etc?
Thanks in advance.

Yes you can freeze tomatoes.
Use small plastic bags, yogurt pots or plastic freezer tubs.
Defrost in the pan, microwave or just allow to defrost for a couple of hours.
Why don't you make the tomato sauce first and freeze that in small portions?

Thanks for your reply, however it has prompted further questions having scanned the other threads...
Can I freeze whole raw onions?
People freeze mashed potato, but how would I reheat this not having a microwave? On the hob or in the oven? Can raw potato be peeled/diced and frozen ready for the pan?
Should other veg, e.g. carrots, be peeled first or frozen as bought? Does it make a difference?
Many thanks again0 -
Can I freeze whole raw onions? You could, but I wouldn't advise it as they'd be impossible to cut after defrosting. They keep so well it isn't really worth it. I freeze chopped onion but it does become very wet when defrosted, best to drain it well before putting in hot fat.
People freeze mashed potato, but how would I reheat this not having a microwave? On the hob or in the oven? Either would work. you might need to add a spot more milk if doing it on the hob. Personally I'd fry it with onions and bacon and any other leftover veg-delicious
Can raw potato be peeled/diced and frozen ready for the pan? I think so, but I haven't tried it.
Should other veg, e.g. carrots, be peeled first or frozen as bought? Does it make a difference? I would peel them ready to cook- so yes peel carrots
Many thanks again
Hope that helps;)0
