cleaning the cooker top
Our cooker top has some burned on stuff that we can never shift no matter how hard we scrub, or how clean everywhere else is. There are also some isolated spots of really stubborn grease that we can't shift. I have tried stardrops, fairy, jif, other cleaners but nothing works. The spatter guard to the right of the cooker…

Homemade Yoghurt ideas
I was bought a lakeland yogurt maker for my birthday last year and haven't really used it very much because the yogurt always seems a bit like sloppy glue (nice!). I have only tried UHT milk (semi-skimmed, skimmed & whole). I was reading a few recipes adding some powdered milk so I gave that a try last night. I gently…

Hi all My shower tray is horrid and I really do need some advise please. There is a build up of mould, which I have even Cillit Banged to no avail so having read some threads on here think it's going to be a bleach and toothbrush job. What would be the best stain remover to use with soap nuts?
Hi Firstly sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section, not sure where I should have posted it. I bought a sample of soap nuts, and used them on "normal" washing, and was impressed with the results, so I have purchased more in a larger quantity to use from now on. It says for really dirty washing to use a stain…

Chicken, white and mushrooms - slow cooker
Whilst I could probably adapt a "normal" recipe, I don't suppose anyone has a favourite recipe using chicken (raw), mushrooms and white wine (got most of a wine box from Xmas left over). Fairly well stocked for herbs etc. I haven't any cream/creme fraiche or yoghurt in and OH doesn't do tomatoey dishes. But I'm sure that…

Pig's Fry
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I thought it made interesting reading as it's basically what OS is all about. My late Mother adored "pig's fry" so I googled it and this is what I got..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/lincolnshire/content/articles/2006/01/11/jane_stanley_feature.shtml Maybe I'm sad, but I…

Another embarrassingly dumb question (roasting a whole chicken)
:o Hands up I admit it, I'm 26 and I've never roasted a chicken in my life. I always buy chicken breasts as I'm terrified of trying to cook a chicken and killing everyone or something. However been reading all the rubber chicken threads and was inspired so... I have a chicken, he's in my fridge just now destined for the…

Kettle descaling balls - anyone know what they are?!
Evening all, I was just thinking back to the time when my housemate bought a whole new kettle because she didn't understand what limescale was or how to get rid of it (!!) and was thinking how scaley our current kettle is. My aunt told me about these little metal mesh ball things that you can apparently buy which you put…

My breadmaker is wonderful!
He's called David, and is also great for warming my toes on at night! :p Serious question though - are breadmakers worth having if you're confident at making it by hand? I know people who swear by them, but they didn't make bread previously.
