Grimy Washing Machine!

Hi!

I'm quite new to the board... regularly read, but don't usually post!

I have a washing machine issue.....

Even though I wipe around the rubber seal on the washing machine after every wash... it is starting to go black!!! ew! and I can not find anything that will get rid of it.... It looks horrible... the machine is only 6 months old!

Any tips??? I really don't want to have to get a new seal... heaven knows how much that would be!

Thanks in advance

Lyns

New seals are usually about £20

www.washerhelp.co.uk loads of info on there on how to care for your machine. Pages like this http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/usage_2.html#cl_q1 for example.

  • do you shut the door on the machine after you've done a wash? My boyf's mum always shuts the door so it never dries out, goes mouldy and stinks! If it's given a chance to air-dry then it shouldn't go mouldy!
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

  • Thanks for the replies... I will go and have a look at that website now.

I don't tend to shut the door, but my other half usually does, so I will tell him not to from now on!!!

    Thanks again!

Yep -very definitely do not shut door.

Not only does it ebcourage mould on the spatt (the door seal) it encourages nasties inside the machine as well.

ALSO... as the moisture does manage to dry out between the door and the spatt it leaves behind a small deposit of limescale (even if you can't see it) and this abrades the surface of the spatt and you end up with a leak.

    Hi scared1980,

This older thread might give you some more ideas:

how to clean mildewy rim on washing machine?

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep all the suggestions together.

Put an old towel over the door so it cannot be closed, have you tried lemon juice on the black spots, I guess they are mould????
