Old Style Daily Thread Tue 29th Jan 2008

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for today. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning to everyone.

We havnt slept very well in this house Yesterday my dd came home from school very upset, they had an assembly at school to tell them that one of there school friends had been killed on Sun, this girl was only 12 and she had been killed in a horse riding event, apparantly she fell off the horse and the horse fell on top of her and killed her. My dd wasnt a personal friend of this girl but more of a school mate as they lived to far from each other but i think it has prayed on her mind most of the evening and then during the night she woke up really upset with lots of questions about dying. You can bluff kids about death when its an older person but much harder to explain when its someone of there own age and someone who hasnt been ill..

She wants to go to school as i expect they will all be a comfort to each other.

Apart from all that got to take the cat to the vets as he been poorly but we have asked for a different vet to last time as we think the last vet didnt go a good job and has ignored the actual problem which we now think is in his ears, he has scratched his face to a real mess and we had to go and buy one of the lampshade things from a pet shop to stop him scratching as the vet didnt think he needed one as the injection at £40 would do the trick .. it didnt and he worse than ever now... will see how that goes and im not in the mood for rubbish today so insisted on a different vet..

anyway hope all is well with everyone else

hugs to all who need it and those that dont at the moment might do by the end of the day .

Rose
Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.

    Morning all, Morning Jockett

How absolutely shocking Jockett, that poor girl's family must be devestated, as must be her school friends.

Beemuzed, I'm sorry to hear about your mum. I hope that you are OK and getting through this tough time. And the same to you Hilstep, of course.

Things in Snowy-Land are all quiet, except for the corner the telly is in. That's the reason for my prolonged absences from the board. I'm all caught up on Corrie, and have discovered an amazing programme called "The Dog Whisperer" on Sky3. Anybody with a problem pooch would find it fascinating how the bloke can correct all sorts of unwanted behaviours.

It's my late start at wo*k today, so plans for this morning are to give the bathroom a good clean. The bathroom bulb blew about three weeks ago, and I eventually got around to replacing it at the weekend as the fitting is quite complicated to unscrew apart. The new bulb is 100watts, and OMG what horrors it has revealed!!! I'll be up to my armpits in Stardrops, vinegar and soda crystals for at least two hours this morning. But first, I think I'll have another little lie down in my lovely warm cosy bed:rolleyes:....

Jockett - good luck with your poor kitty at the vet. I hope it's actually something simple, maybe just earmites or similar and that the torturous itching will stop soon.

    Have a great day everyone.

Morning all - short night's sleep here. I had been planning to get up at 5am for the gym but didn't get to sleep until 1.30 so I'm skipping the gym. I'm also going to spend a few nights in the back bedroom catching up - between DH and the cats snoring and fidgeting I'm only getting a few hours sleep a night and it's nowhere near enough.

Last night I did loads of washing, washingup, tidying and made a wholemeal loaf which is fab - just having some now. Today is a normal working day; I'm taking some leftover curry for lunch, and dinner tonight is a pork & apple casserole that I made at the weekend. The day doesn't really have anything exciting to offer - more a case of get my head down and get through as much work as possible.

    Morning Everyone

((Hugs)) to your DD Jocket, I think the death of someone our own age is always traumatic, it reminds us how fragile we all are, and a traumatic one like this at such a young age even more so. Yes I agree she will be best at school where they can support each other.:grouphug:
Any chance you could put our bathrooms on your list Snowy?:T :T

HJ - Make sure you leave Pink a full list of flylady jobs. While you may not enjoy the op, ensure the excuse to do nothing for a short while.:D :D

Pen-Pen - hope DD got back from Barcelona OK, and had a great time.

Everyone else:hello: :hello: :hello:. No plans formulated for the day yet. May go down the coast to the Mar Menor, have a long walk along the front, and find a Menu Del Dia. 18 and sunny forecast for today, and sun and/or sun/cloud and as warm/warmer on the 10 day window, so looking hopeful for a good half term out here.
    Take care. DG

JOCKETT what a sad story, poor girl. I know what you mean about explaining death to children. My dear Step-Son died when he was 17 of cancer and DS was only 2. I found a wonderful organisation called Winston's Wish who helped me to find the words to explain things. Hugs to your DD.

Hugs to anyone else who needs one.

Have got a loaf proving in the airing cupboard, DW emptied, one load of washing done overnight, another in now, chicken stock done in the slow cooker.

Off into local town to open a Halifax save4it account for DS when he is 18. Can't believe it will take half an hour and an appointment:eek: . Will have a mosey in some charity shops for some more wool.

Then need to come back home for a quick tidy up and studying before I go to work at 1pm. This is the last of my excess shifts. Don't really want to do anymore as I'm getting so tired.

Have a good day all:A xxxx

    Morning Chums ,
I'm up with the lark this morning .I have the chap from Virgin coming sometime this morning to sort out the problem on catch-up t.v. It seems the new box they put in about 6 weeeks ago is not working properly .I just kept complaining to them ,and so far I have had a tenner knocked off next months bill.
It's a nuisance when it doesn't work as it means I miss some of my programmes that I like. I usually save the good ones to watch on a Saturday night when theres not much on.
This afternoon I am off to crafting club,I have a card to make for my sis-in-law who will be home from Dubai on Saturday. She has been there since the beginning of December so I am looking forward to seeing her next week. She will notice the cold though I think, it's her birthday on Friday so I will pop in to Hempstead Vally shopping mall on Wednesday and buy her something nice .
Tonight I'm off to my youngest DD's for dinner .I can feel the difference my blood count rising makes, as I'm so full of energy at the moment. My eyebrows are almost gone and my hair is very thin, but I still have some .I had it cut very short about a month ago so it wouldn't look too strange when it started to go, and so far it's not too bad.But very soft and silky like baby hair .It's so funny because I've always had a very thick mop. But I'm not too fussed as it does return eventually . I just think of all the cash I'm saving on shampoo & conditioner.lol.
I just looked at the calender and I can't believe how quick the month has flown It seems that Christmas is a distant memory now, as it's almost February already.
Well time for my morning protein drink and a couple of cups of tea. I hope everyone has a good day and <<hugs to those in need>>and a big smiley face to the rest of you.

    Morning All

Jockett - hope your dd is ok. It must've been a terrible shock for her. Also we had a similar problem with a vet. Hope you get lucky like us, as we got a really lovely one when we requested a new one. Why do some people become vets when they have no compassion for animals:confused:

Not a brilliant night's sleep here. Someone thought it would be a great idea to get my opinion on an argument at 10pm - one hour after I'd gone to bed:mad: I'd not even heard from this person for two months until yesterday:wall: Seeing her for lunch later this week as she's going to be a single mum and needs some support.

I'm all signed up for speed dating - oh help! That's the Monday before Valentine's Day and I had a word with someone about a job yesterday. They're going to let me know if anything comes up. :T

Bought some fruit teas for work yesterday and an apetite suppressing one - hopefully this will stop the boredom snacks. Just had a soya drink as I'm trying to get some more vitamins in me, so thought this stuff's meant to be good for you:confused:

Also registered for this year's Race For Life, so will have to scoot over to the charity board to see if this thread for this year's started yet. Anyone else doing their local one?

    Hope everyon's ok

JackieO, glad to hear your are feeling good today, just don'e go overdoing it.

Dry here today, but just heard the weather forecast for Friday - snow

Soup for lunch, and pork chops and col (thingy) - mash with cabbage for tea.

Ebay listing later, I will photograph everything, and list while I'm watching Loose Women :D

Have a good day everyone x

Morning all who have posted so far and all who sneak in while I'm posting and all who follow!

JOCKETTUK - how shocking and sad, my heart goes out to the poor girl's family. (((Hugs))) to your DD.

Didn't get much time on here yesterday due, mainly, to DH being off work trying to chase up people who haven't paid him for work he has done. He lost a day's work but picked up a couple of other potential contracts so the day wasn't wasted. I spent the morning baking and made loads of stuff from recipes on here. DH kept asking me for 'that lovely coconutty pudding' and I eventually found the recipe which was AUSSIE LASS'S Impossible Pie. DH really likes that, AUSSIE! Thanks. I also made AMIE's Weetabix brownies, some chocolate shortbready things which turned out delicious and some very easy almond slices. All the almond slices have gone and the Impossible Pie and half of the other stuff; I've had to hide some of it so DGS gets some when he comes round after school today!

Anyway, I've been knitting like mad in the evenings. I've almost finished a handbag for DS2's GF's birthday in March; it was such an easy pattern that I'm going to make loads more but just adapt the pattern and colours to make them individual. They'll make ideal Christmas pressies.

Anyway, I must get a wiggle on and go and have a shower - I have a small pile of ironing to do this morning and a massive pile of paperwork which has threatened to engulf me and the desk, so I must get it done today.

    Have a great day.

    mornng all,

jockettuk how sad for the girls family, hugs to your DD. Hope your kitty is ok at the vets xx

Well its the second day of my training today :D , looking forward to it, apart from the [STRIKE]igloo[/STRIKE] warehouse we are working in, i am going to put leggins under my jeans today, and a hat.

OH is off this morning for his theory driving test.

DD had dance after school so will be late home, have got lamb chops mash and veg for tea, will put the chops in the SC on the timer to come on at two, then flash them under the grill to crisp up, they are delish like this, really tender, and the juice makes great gravy.

Well thats about it for me, will have a quick swipe before I go, not enough washing for a load.

    Have good days all xx
