Refreezing mince when cooked

Hi all can anyone help me please? I defrosted some lamb mince overnight and have just made 5 batches of spag bol/ shepherds pie. I was going to cook one tonight and then freeze the rest as only hubby eats meat. But i've just realised that it would be frozen twice not sure if you can refreeze meat once defrosted then cooked. If it isn't safe to freeze it will it keep in the fridge for a few days? Any replies appreciated please as i'm now thinkingi'll have to chuck some out!

  • yes it will be fine - you cant defrost it then refreeze it again whilst still raw but as you have cooked it you can and it will be fine.

    I,m in with Jacksons mum, in fact I sometimes cook whoopsie meat straight away, in order to freeze a bit emmm more safely, safer, with safety in mind, you catch my drift I,m sure

  • We 'entertained' some friends on boxing day so I made a few lasagnes a couple of days before christmas, just made them up didn't put them in the oven, then put them in the freezer, when people started arriving I took them out of the freezer and put them in the oven, they were cooked through in under 2 hours and it meant that I wasn't stuck in the kitchen all night!

  • I regularly take 500g mince out of freezer, make chilli/ bolognese are whatever and then freeze some for another day.

    I do this as well. I have a large pressure cooker, so can happily cook a kilo of Spag Bol!!!

    I aways freeze fresh mince then defrost it and cook up a sauce for bol, mince with doughballs or shepherds pie and freeze whats left over, no probs as long as you heat the mince so its very hot after defrosting.
    Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.

    Have a large packet of mince in freezer (reduced couldn't resist ) it is too much for 3 should have split before freezing but didn't will next time can I defrost make a bolognese then refreeze extra I know it can with chicken and fish but not sure aboumeat don't want to poison DD or me could always feed to OH I suppose and see what happens LOL Kathy

    Yea, that's fine.

    Any meat can be defrosted, cooked and then refrozen. A problem would only occur if you tried to re-freeze before it had been cooked :)
