Old Style Skills
When I was a lil Nixy I used to spend time with my Nanna and she was the one who taught me all those OS skills - she taught me how to cook and bake and sew and crochet and knit, we did patchwork and all kinds of things together As I grew up I dropped a lot of those skills but now I am finding I'm using them again and…

Stinky sink
I'm sorry if I've missed this on any other thread but can anyone tell me what would be good for my cream coloured small sink with waste disposer in it. It always smells nasty and so far the best 'cure' is to put lemon skins down it, tho that doesn't last for long. It's really smelly always, tho I run water through it…

Pressure Cookers - Buying
Hi there everyone. I'm looking for advice. I had a bit of a disaster the other day while using my old Tefal pressure cooker. I took some vegetables off the stove and then opened the pressure cooker and then - how silly is this - put the pressure cooker lid down on the ring! This then cooked my pressure cooker lid…

Stuffing for Beef Olives...
I have some beef olives courtesy of tesco for tonights tea, there is a recipe on the back of the pack for stuffing them but it would cost me a fortune to go out and buy all thier 'suggested finest' ingredients! I have shallots, mushrooms and some sundried tomatoes (do you think all those things would go well together?)…

Apple Pie in Slow Cooker
Hello peeps I have been given some cooking apples which really need using up asap. I have to pop out later today, so wondered if you can make the basic apple sauce in the slow cooker, and then I can just roll out a puff pastry lid when I get home later (i would make 'proper' pastry but i'm giving blood later, so this will…

Trying to stop eating bread
Hi - I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am trying to cut down on carbs and am really struggling for breakfast. I don't like cereal, porridge, or fruit or yoghurt. I really crave savoury things in the morning. Does anyone have any bright ideas for what I could eat for breakfast instead? Thank you

Nice packaging for HM fudge
I am planning on making some HM fudge for presents and was wondering if anyone had any great ideas on how I could package it up to make it look nice? I will probably only make a small quantity (unless it works out really well!). I have a feeling that I've seen something on a thread before but can't find it so apologies for…

Help with oven liner
I bought an oven liner to save all the spills but I am having trouble with it. How do I get it to stay put in my fan oven? It flaps about all over the place! I put a baking sheet on it to hold it down but this seems to defeat the whole purpose of having a liner in the first place. Suggestions please!!

Advice needed - making curtains
I want a door curtain for my front door and for various reasons I'm planning on making one. I need some help regarding measuring the drop. I've got a couple of curtain making books, but both of them only give help on measuring if using a pole. I'm going to use track, and when I've made a couple of 'trial' curtains before,…

The Perfect Mashed Potato?
Here's a conundrum :) Hubby is extremely picky when it comes to veg, potato in particular. He hates winter spuds (you know, the ones that break down/fall apart during cooking), and ends up surviving the season on Sainsburys Instant Mash. This of course doesn't help me with trying to keep the kids on a healthy diet, when…

Cheapest/best way to buy cheese
Having kept all my receipts for Oct I have notice we get through a lot of cheese, it will propably be about 10 packs of the 300g cheddar. I have been buying mature as you dont need so much in sauces and alike (its the pizza that is the main offender I think!). This month I bought 6 packs from tesco when I did my monthly…
